What kind of power do I need to play small parties, but still rock it?

I want to put together a sound system to play pretty small parties (50-100 person house parties / field parties etc)

Im pretty retarded when it comes to sound, but basically I want the full spectrum of high/mid frequencies to be clear and loud, with pretty kicking bass.

I want to be able to play anything from dubstep to ambient and have it sound loud and clear.

I have never had to provide the actual sound equipment before (Last time the system I used had "earthquakes", kindof an overkill lol), is there a good starter setup anyone can recommend?

Thanks.

Look for some deals on some used JBL EON 15s (Active) if you don't wanna spend that much.

Also, check out the Behringer B215As. They're cheap, loud and clear. I have one and highly recommend it. Behringer is crap with their DJ gear but their speakers are excellent.

Because you said field parties (which I assume you mean are outdoors) I wouldn't go with any studio monitors or anything like that. PAs all the way.

Look at those B215s (or even the B212s which are smaller).

Nothing to be ashamed of, I use it at home these days as my daughter has taken over the studio and too much technology around a 2 year old is not a good idea.

Cheers

Drunk Qsc all the way

IMO

The qsc k series pa speakers are the way to go. Light and powerful.

Check out some reviews on them.

I bought these straight away after listening to them.

I use a powered mixer with some Yamaha BR12 speakers. Pretty good. I think for that size of party you need at least a 300w powered mixer

Something like this:

or you could get an amp...im only familiar with these types of powered mixers though. Hope it helps.

My friend spilled a drink on it lol, he gave me some money to compensate to its all good. I liked it as a mixer though, alot better than my Total Control. Main complaint is the tiny range of the pitch shifters... not very sensitive BPM wise, sometimes I cant get closer than 0.01 BPM up/down to the song im mixing in, which annoys me greatly, even with Traktor using 8% mode. And there is nothing more I hate than fucking with the jog wheels to keep two songs nicely in sync.... I want to beatmatch and just be done with it!

Its been great.... IMO I have no need for anything with more features, has all the stuff I need to play a gig:

Two L/R RCA outputs, one main, one monitor
Mic input (1/4")
Headphone monitor output (1/4")

Sound quality and latency seem very good to me! Seems to get along with traktor very well, running it all on Windows 7 . Its nice and light, can just toss it in the laptop bag. Its also survived one gig with heavy dew falling on it, seems to be decently durable considering its made out of plastic.

I think I may get a pair of the Behringer B212A speakers... one question though, what is the main advantage of 15" woofers over 12"?

I used to do mobile, and now I do sound at my club. Honestly, stay away from JBL EON'S. Unless you get the new ones, the old grey ones sucked.

Passive Speakers (Ones you need an amp for) will usually sound better and louder than Powered Speakers. However, they're also bulkier and heavier. So the first question you gotta ask your self. Passive vs Powered?

If you choose Passive, the combinations are endless.

If you want powered, depends on what budget you are. I heard the B52 Matrix 1000 the other day and I was surprised how good these sound. Honestly, I never expected that good of a sound from a B52 system.

However, my first choice would be JBL PRX Series. Those kick ass and have more bass than the QSC K Series. However, there's a trade off. JBL's are bigger than the QSC's. That's my second choice, QSC K Series.

My 3rd choice would be the Mackies SRM speakers. They're good, but you need a sub for bass.

Lastly, if you really got money to blow, you can get a powered FUNKTION ONE RESOLUTION 2 speakers. They'll set you back about $2500-$3000 each. lol But they're perfect for EDM events. I actually considered buying some of these, but I think they're an overkill for my gigs.

Good luck lugging around that sub from the Matrix system though. It's heavy as sh!t!
