David Guetta: Unfortunately I don't find one that can do everything. I use ProTools for recording, mixing, and editing. I use Logic when I need a groovy bassline because it has the best groove quantization, and I use more and more Ableton Live. Ableton Live is almost the one but there is a problem with the midi quantize so I need to go back and forth with Logic, which is kind of a pain in the ass, but it's OK."

What kind of problems is he talking about and does the latest version of Ableton still has these problems or has Ableton fixed these problems by now? The interview is apperently from 2007 so maybe Ableton has fixed/improved these problems in later versions?

perhaps it would be better to read interviews about producing from actual producers and not djs who have ghost producers.

It says that he did work with others in the past but that now he is making his music himself.

Anyway, i am not here to defend guetta, so let's get back on topic..

so does ableton have or had midi quantize problems (which?) and have these been fixed in newer releases?

What I do know is that the quantitization features in Logic are better than in pretty much any sequencer. You can make your own midi patterns and quantitize to those. I've been present at quite some Logic courses here and there and it was interesting to see how people imported midi patterns from an MPC so they could use some of it's very specific rythms in logic as well. Good stuff, which I think no other sequencer has thus far. My guess is that that's what mister Guetta is talking about.

Live 7 quantize works for me. I know Live 8 has groove patterns now, not sure if it's exactly the same as what Logic does though.

thankfully you can download ALL of logic's groove/quantize templates and import them into ableton 8 now

and fuck quantize, i do everything by hand

Yeah, ableton can do the same now...

Its not quantise though, its swing, so a bit of a different animal, but can be used for the same results.
