This thread comes up every year and I guess people just don't keep track of what is going on a regular basis here. December and January are always slow in Atlanta because a lot of the people that go out in Atlanta are college students and they are all out of school during this time. But just to show you its not dead in Atlanta this is what we, Liquified, have brought into Atlanta in 2009 and i'm sure I am missing.....

Atlanta had an awesome year up until about September. Seriously, we got everything you could ask for...from all the mainstream trance and house DJs to more "underground" artists you'd never expect to see here. Konrad Black, 2562, Martyn, Ryan Elliott, Appleblim, Bruno Pronsato, Tim Green, Lee Foss, Seth Troxler...just to name a few. If you haven't found something you like, you haven't been looking hard enough.
But yeah, things fizzled out pretty fast and Adam is pretty much right on the money about the nightlife environment in Atlanta. The main thing being that these smaller promoters just can't bring in artists like they used to without a steady venue...but hopefully things will change soon.
Liquified has continued to do their thing and brought in just about every bigger trance and house DJ you could ask for if that's what you're in to, (though I can see the unappeal if you're not a fan of Opera) and even some decent smaller artists like Joris Voorn and Nic Faniculli at Filter. I'm sure it will be just as steady for them in 2010.
I really hope things get back on track soon, I miss Bazzaar and all the crazy lineups we had here. I wish there was more I could do to help, but like Austin I'm pretty much limited to supporting good shows (when they happen) as much as I can.

2009 wasn't Atlanta's best year for sure, but come on. I saw Fanciulli, Burridge, and Joris Voorn each throw down at Filter, countless local/underground parties go off at Bazaar until it closed (see Trace's post above), and hung out with Phil K and others at Loca Luna while drinking beer and watching drunk girls get half naked in the kiddie pool. And that was just in the Summer, when I didn't have full time classes an hour outside of town and could actually go out and do stuff.
I would tell you to maybe go out a bit more, and to see some locals play instead of relying on Liquified to bring you expensive headliners each week, but clearly all you want to do is whine about how "the last 2 years have been shit." Why don't you go move to Nashville, or Portland, or Salt Lake City, or some other big city that doesn't have half the scene we do, and readjust your opinions a bit?

This was a HUGE year.
Thanks to Liquified for bringing in so much talent. I got a bit annoyed a few times with Opera...and it did slow down there at the end, but if you look at the year in total, it was definitely an excellent year. Sugar Society up in Charlotte picked up the slack the last couple of months by the way. All in all, it was probably the best year in my opinion.
Sasha & Digweed - amazing show
Markus Schulz x3
Above & Beyond x2
George Acosta
Armin
Tiesto (cringe)
PvD (cringe)
The Crystal Method
Ferry Corsten x2
Cosmic Gate
ATB
Deadmau5
Gareth Emery
Blake Jarrell
Rank 1
Dubfire
And then there were a lot of other artists/DJs/shows that I didn't follow or care for...but obviously a lot of people did.
