Re: Problem with Vestax mixer

I just set up my dj gear in my room and everything is working fine except for two things.
1. When using headphones, I can only hear sound from the left ear pad. I've changed headphones and it does the same thing to my AKG's as well. It is the same for both turntables.
2. The Pan on the mixer doesn't seem to work right. When i pan to the left, it sounds like it works properly, but when i pan all the way to the right there is no sound coming out at all.
I'm thinking it is a problem with the mixer, either the wires are not put in all the right places or there is a problem internally with the mixer. |
I used to do tech support for vestax - what model is it?

first, do the general things:
Check all the cables are seated right; unplug, clean with switch cleaner/cailubeMCL, and replug.
Waggle the headphone jack whilst playing something and see if anything changes (i.e. you get a burst of stereo etc.).
Now, check the faders and crossfaders. move them through their path of travel slowly (play something ambient/pads/breakdown etc - it's easier to tell) and while moving back and forwards, try pushing them laterally. Sometimes when a fadre is on the way out you can loose one of the channels.
If there is no problem with that, open up the crossfader panel (remove faceplate if needed) and check the tiny connector cable is seated properly.
Finally, flush out the channel switches and faders with cailube mcl.
If that doesn't do it, it's time for repair or a new mixer.
Let me know if you how you get on.

Sweet. Would you happen to know where I can pick up the plastic slider cap for the eq cut on a PMC-25? I called Vestax and the person I talked to, told me they no longer support that mixer.

oooh, that's going to be tough. The PMC 25 is a really great mixer. They only used that little cap on a couple of the mixers (pmc37 pro etc), so not many places are going to carry spares.
You've got a couple of options:
Firstly I'd try VST service (vstservice.com) - they have a ton of vestax parts and they're in pasadena so it's not even that far to drive.
If that doesn't work, you could stay up late (or get up early) and call leisuretec in the UK (vestax's UK dist). They were always good with repairs and parts and they can just probably bung them in the post to you. The only problem with that was they took over distribution only in 2006, after the PMC 25 ceased production so they might not have too many spares left for the legacy mixers.
You could also try the canadian distributor Erikson Audio or go throgh head office in Japan.
Let me know how you get on.....
If those can't help PM me - I know a guy who bought out a major vestax distributor here in the US and all their stock. He also had a few broken vestax mixers that he was selling for parts. Long shot but might be worth a try if the other sources fail.

Thanks for the info, I'll try VST first since they're near me.
The mixer works great, just a bummer one of the caps fell off.
