Question Scammed on coachella tickets...

Hey guys,

Well my younger bro bought me and him coachella tickets off craigslist and we just found out the ticketmaster etickets got refunded.

So he's waiting with his buds in the camping line for 4-6 hours and when he gets to the front (6am) and gets his ticket scanned the guy says "it's been refunded, you can't get into the campgrounds, go speak to the boxoffice" Now he's in the box office line and is going to have to wait another 2-4 hours to get to even speak with them.

I was suppose to go meet up with him today, but it looks like it's going to happen because of the failing etickets.

Anyway, we have the guy's license plate number and name, and also the name of the person's name who is on the ticket including her california license ID number. Is there anything we can do to get our money back or even press charges? We paid cash for the tickets and I know there probably isn't no proof of transaction. We paid $540 for them.

this really sucks, and unfortunately due to online sales of tickets, it's starting to become a common occurrence.

hope everything works out.

What they did is fraud and might be considered grand theft, too, considering the amount.

Where's Mikey Mike (mar46017), he's a lawyer.

You could at the very least file a complaint with the police department and if you have the contact info of the people you bought it from, make sure they receive notice of the complaint from someone. Maybe even see if the police will call directly. Sometimes you find a good cop who is willing to help out.

If they did intentionally commit fraud, chances are they are thinking you won't go all the trouble to contact the authorities and that stuff...so I'd just do it. It makes it more of a pain in the ass, but don't let them easily get away with it.

Mikey Mike Esq. is here. Dave is absolutely correct. What he did is a form of theft and a police report should be filed. Hopefully he will be caught and the judge will attach some form of restitution to the charges to get your damages back. You should also look into suing in small claims court or a limited jurisdiction. What he did rises to punitive charges if done intentionally. However, you may not be able to get punitives in small claims court. You may be able to get compensatory damages like your travel costs and the difference of what you had to pay for real tickets. (assuming he as money, is not a deadbeat and will pay a judgment).

You could probably press charges in the jurisdiction in which you met with him or quite possibly in the Indio area where the venue is located.

Sucks to hear. I actually heard of someone "making" wristbands this weekend so it sounds like there will be a lot of monkey business going on out there this weekend. Good luck. Sucks. Expensive lesson learned.

PM me the plate and name addy etc.

I can confirm the addy with the plate, so it will give you at least a confirmation on a valid address.

Sucks to hear man...

Sorry to hear that happened!

When I went to Coachella 2006 I bought my Sunday ticket online for $200 (they had been sold out) but made sure to buy a paper ticket. Luckily I had already bought a Saturday ticket and met up with the person that day to give me my ticket.

I had been weary of e-tickets because I realized someone could just sell one to more than one person and you'd be screwed.

But ya Mike's advice sounds best. You could probably get some money back in civil court.

And good job having their info! If you didn't have their name or info you'd be stuck but you have options thank to knowing who they are.

ticketmaster will resend you tickets if you tell them you lost your tickets. I lost my house of blues tickets for a deadmau5 show, and they sent me new tickets and told me that they deactivated the old ones.

and for the spundae atb/gareth emery event, i was trying to sell my etickets. i was keeping in contact with this girl that was interested through email. she ended up emailing spundae and telling them that she gave me money for the tickets when she hadnt yet, so they changed the eticket to be under her name...so when i got to the event, i couldnt get in. luckly, i was able to talk to the person in charge and get in for free. so that bitch got to attend the vent for free, while i paid 40/ticket.

Small world, and I must keep all client confidences. However, I received a call last night from someone who wanted to know what he should do if he "allegedly" sold a bunk ticket on craigslist.

theft over 500 is a felony.what they did constitutes as theft.you have all their info so its a matter of going to the station(though usually its a commissioners office) in that jurisdiction and filing a police report.they will be sent a court notice to appear to defend themselves(if the police think they can find the people in question and interview them,an arrest may even be made)

if they fail to appear in court the judge can issue a warrant against them for failure to appear.if they cant be located ,if at any time they are pulled over in the future the warrant will pop up and they will be arrested.

so there are some options here.getting your money back right away probably wont happen unless they are located and pay so they wont have to go to court.but if they have to go to court they WILL have to pay you.and if they dont pay within a certain time frame the judge sets up a warrant will be reissued and they will be arrested.

it could take a while.hopefully it will go smooth for you.good luck!
