My fiancee and I just recently moved to Houston from Louisiana. We would like for someone to tell us more about where is good to go out maybe downtown or other areas. Not just clubs but anywhere which is good for social hang out places. It's been years since I've been to Houston and last time I came I actually went to stay with Izzy, another TA in college station, and then came to houston to see pvd. We are living in the med center area off kirby street now and would like to know some places to go out. We also would like to know how it works parking downtown at nights. Today we went to register our cars and paid $20 just to park for 2 hours after paying almost $400 to register 2 damn cars. We quickly learned that TX is much more expensive for car stuff than LA. If any other TA's from Houston are around just email me because I don't get on this forum as often anymore.

Downtown parking options:

Cheap - find meter parking. At night these are usually free, but i doubt you want to be downtown at night. Club scene moved away from there earlier this decade. I think its happening in Washington ave still. But don't quote me on that..i rarely go out anymore

Parking lots are expensive as hell. So if you can search for the cheapest one and then walk to your destination. If live in Medical center I think u can take the light rail to downtown.

Hey thanks a lot. Does anyone know any stores here in town where I can find specialty beers like imports from Belgium? There is a store in my hometown in LA. and they had all kinds of hard to find belgian beers and now I'm spoiled on them and don't like to drink anything else. If anyone else knows this info pleas let me know the name of the places.

Ahh, now you got MY attention And you're near Kirby, so you're in the perfect area.

Spec's downtown is your best bet if you want to go out and buy the Belgian goodness. Spec's (5A stores only) usually carry the high end belgian ales. Central Market on Westlayan and Westheimer also sells ales. As a matter of fact I was there today and picked up a bottle of Kwak. Galo is the beer manager there and he can help you out.

As far as places that "serve" the beer, Han's Beir Haus on Kirby and Sunset, Gingerman's in Rice Village (the owner's name is Vicky, she's pretty cool), there's Flying Saucer in downtown (Main and Texas), Kelvin Arms on Kelvin near Kirby, and Cafe Montrose on Montrose near Westheimer. I was told Cafe Montrose closed though, not sure about that. Cafe Agora on Westheimer near Dunlavy serves my fav beer, Tripel Karmeliet. They also have Urthel Quad, Delerium Tremens and most of the Unibroue brews. Cafe Agora is just overpriced though.

If you ever want to go out and grab some brews, let me know man. Flying Saucer has 250 different beers on tap and over 100 different bottled beers.

There's a brewmasters festival going on for labor day in Galveston.

Had a belgian style beer at a Florence pub (local microbrewery) that wasn't too bad. Actually they had pretty descent selection of beer styles. Lately all I've been drinking this summer are Weihenstephaner Heffe and Moretti.

Yea man I'd heard about the festival a while back. I had a friend from work that went and cabbed it back home. I know one of the brewers from Sam Adam's lives in Conroe and started making his own beer a while back (can't remember the name), and apparently he debuted the beer last year at the festival in Galveston and was recognized quick.

I haven't tried Moretti yet. I'll need to pick that up soon.

Carlos man give me a call. I've been trying to contact you about going out and having a few beers.
