new valve game that came out for free on steam. haven't had the chance to play it or even read what it is, but from the pics it looks pretty fun. anybody try it yet and care to review?

I quite like it.

Feels a bit awkward control-wise, but that’s what you get with these kinds of games I suppose. Compared to alien breed, I think they dumbed down the controls well, making it much easier to move your character around. I would still prefer a map that spun around so you’re always looking “up”, but who knows whether that would work or not. I could only play alien breed when I stopped paying attention to the facing of my character, because otherwise felt way too awkward.

Much more tactical than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise. Ammo management, friendly fire, gun turrets etc. very cool. You even lose ammo if you reload your clip too early, that’s almost rogue spear-like!

Only 1 level for solo play which is a shame, though the buddy AI is absolutely horrendous. Trying to get everyone inside a room so you can reinforce the door can be a pain, and having your buddies move far away to engage when you’ve clearly given them a “come here” order is really frustrating. Looking forward to some MP action when my mate is free; look out for playing with randoms, apparently there’s plenty of griefers shooting their team mates for the lulz.

Definitely looking forward to playing some more.

fun game, but only one campaign so it gets boring quickly. Can't complain though as its a free game

You can turn it into a FPS easily.

go to Options > Keyboard > Enable developer console. Then hit ` (to the left of 1) and type:

firstperson
asw_hide_marine 1
asw_controls 0
