The Agenda: Emerging Adulthood | What is it about 20-somethings?

I stumbled upon this report/debate on TVO a few days ago, and thought it would be of interest to lots of people on this board considering many of us are in our 20s.

It's about a new phase in life that researchers are calling "emerging adulthood" which is between the teenage years and the adult years.

The report talks about the economic and social realities of people in their 20s today.

It's definitely worth the watch. Make sure to check out the videos on both tabs.

Thanks for that.

If I was thinking the same way like my parents. I would have been married already 2-3 years and had a mortgage. For one, I have yet to meet someone that could keep me tied down willingly and I dislike the idea of having a kid. Two, even if I got a decent job. I truly do not want a mortgage for over 5 years.

As long as I have a stable income by 30. I will be quite happy, but for now. Business as usual.

I know one person. She just got engaged and she's like 20 or 21. Thing is, her fiancé is in his mid-20s or late 20s.

20's are a tough time.... growing up and realizing you can't party every weekend because you need to save for a house/car/future/invest etc. sux.

The original article was published a couple of months ago. Interesting read at first, but nothing all-together revealing.

Its not like partying really costs that much....I'd go out and spend less then $40 for a night...including cover.

I like the european model of living. Pay your bills 5 days a week. Party all weekend whether u are 18 or 38.

People there ALWAYS find a way to go out which is why there are so many events, djs and festivals over there.

Same with me. It's all about moderation when going out. Have a few drinks before you go out, find places with cheap or free cover, as long as you're with friends someone will either drive or you're splitting on a cab. It's very easy to go out and still save money!
Perhaps even easier as a girl as my drinks are usually paid for by someone else lol

Not only does saving prevent me....My brain, my day job and life style cannot take the partying every weekend anymore.

To be honest with you, I can't envision me living my life the way I used to. I am so comfortable now and enjoy my couch and movie time. 8/10 times I would rather be doing that than be in the club.
