tech's vs mixer

I have a decent pair of citronic direct drive tables, and a very basic mixer (no eq's). Would it be better for me to get myself a good mixer like a Vestax pmc 275 or save up a bit longer and get 2 techs while keepng my crappy mixer.....What would you guys do??

2 techs.

keep your eye open for a deal on a good mixer, but the decks are far more important.

I seem to be the only one suggesting to get the mixer, so I'll explain why...

beatmatching is the least fun part of djing imho... it's having the songs beatmatched, and playing with the faders and eq to create a 'new piece of music', making that one perfect transition.... THAT's the fun part. so I figure, if you get the mixer first, you'll have a lot more fun in the period between buying it and getting new tables.Otherwise you have two great TT's but nothing (well nothing much) to use them with

well, if you have crappy tables, your mixes will always be drifting so you won't get much time to be creative on the mixer anyway.

plus, you might get used to crappy decks.

some people say that is good, because then techs are so much easier. however some say it's bad, because you aren't used to the techs, and then have to learn again.

in any case, he is probably already used to the crappy ones so...

do whatcha like mate. but, i think get the techs first.

Get the Technics first.

I had a crappy mixer and DD turntables. The first thing I did was get a better mixer. I now realize that I should've just waited for the techs.

You can get used to a mixer, but your techs will be with you for a while and plus its pretty much the DJ standard.

If you are comfortable using your decks then get the mixer first. I still don't have Technics in my home set-up (still the trusty old Geminis) as I don't need them, I can use my decks quite easily although they aren't as smooth as Technics. I enjoy watching other DJ's who come to my house struggle, therefore I think not using Technics in my home set-up has made me more adaptable to any situation. I am as comfortable using poorer direct drive decks as I am using Technics.

i suggest getting a mixer with eq's and shit first

your tables are fine for now

you can learn all the basics of beatmatching on any tables as long as they have a pitch control

but you can't pull off a decent sounding mix without eq controls and volume faders that don't raise the volume consistently, which will discourage you

i learned to spin on gemini belts
after spinning for a month and being able to beatmatch *fairly* good, i went and tried out some techs at this guys house and i stunk up the room
spent a couple more months working on my beatmatching and by then i could spin a flawless set on the belts

then when i made my transition to techs it was easy as hell
took me a couple mixes to get used to them and now i can spin on just about anything

I got crappy decks (JB System Direct Drive) and I can beatmatch with them (sometimes it's really difficult because they are really old) and when I try to mix with techs it is sooooooooooo easy !!! I think you don't have to learn again when you come from crappy to techs.

Anyway I gonna buy techs really soon
