You must check your recording levels on your mixer when performing the mix. Try not to exceed 0 db. At least, i try to keep it from -3db to 0db.

And when recording using soundforge.
You'll also need to re-adjust the recording level of your computer's volume control to about -3 db to 0 db to avoid clippings.

hmm it never even goes past like -5 db so it cant be that and in the computer volume settings where do i goto change that? is it the one in the systray cuz if it is theres no -5 dB or any numbers next to it?

its either my soundforge settings or i need a new soundcard.

Cool May be your sound card

I have recorded some sets in SoundForge 4.0, with the predeterminated parameters, and I haven't any kind of problems, mostly if u perform a test before a recording and check the dB leves in the rule on the left side.
Other thing u can do, is record it on another device, like MD or DAT, and check out recording it on another PC. If it works correctly, then u might be sure about your soundcard.
Try an specialized one like Creative's soundpro, with RCA line inlets/outlets and opctic fiber inlets and other things. They are great if u are seriously about recording a set.

Cool

What kind of soundcard do you have? Make sure that you're recording at 44100hz, 16 bit stereo. Don't set your levels too high. If your recording comes out with low volume, you can always increase the volume later. But, if you record with the levels set too high, you'll more than likely get a lot of distortion and that's much harder to clean up after.
