I'm layering two pads and it would be cool to just use one automation, for example to increase the cutoff for both of the pads without doing that in each track separately.

you can group them together and put a filter on the group. |
They're already grouped, so a filter would work on the group.
But I was hoping for a more universal approach, so I can modify some explicit parameters of the different synths/tracks (like with macros).

yes

... or making an instrument rack with multiple plugins that way you can macro within the same channel |
Thanks man, I think that's a promising idea which I'll try next.
Edit: Ok, looks like this is what I need. The downside is, that I can't set the values for the send-channels separately for the instruments.
Or is there a way around that limitation?

cant you just set the midi with the automation out to your soundcard/mididevice out, put up a midicable between out and in on the device and put up your instruments to recieve midi from same midi channel input? should work nice. required a mididevice of course, but i guess you have midi on your soundcard?

yeah, I have midi ports, but this approach seems a bit complicated tbh

its really not. i find it retarded that one cannot assign midi from one channel into a different channel in ableton though (should be able to recieve from any channel). please correct me if this is possible, but i dont think you would ask if it where. even Reason can do this.
