so many ways to go, such a bomb of a question.

It all depends on what best fits you and your needs and where you want to go creatively.

1- Many are still playing vinyl, but that's becoming difficult when playing live as turntables aren't really standard kit anymore. Some people will

2- CDs and good cd players are plenty in clubs. CDJ1000 or 2000 and others from Denon etc are great pieces of kit.

3- Computer mixing. Traktor/Serato/Torq/etc. Many options out there. Traktor seems to be the most featured and many djs are using it, it's a tie with Serato which seems to drag a little bit in development.
Keep in mind with computer mixing that you open a new world of possibilities and ways to operate using controllers, live remixing etc. Your computer will be fine.
You can also mix with timecode.


I got back into it with Traktor over a year a go after having been away a while.
It was a struggle to figure out everything at first, there is a learning curve, especially relating to controllers but once things start to tick it's pure bliss.

Now, personally I want to get back into vinyl as an "extra", but also because of sound warmth and because some releases are still vinyl only including some labels who only release on vinyl. It's still an option, albeit more difficult.

What mixer? Go back to my Rane or is there better?

I always regretted selling all my shit... I should have stuck with it... I really miss my empath, it was butter smooth....Fuck! You know I spent months mixing at night and sleeping with it less than 2-3 feet away, and I would wake up in the morning and spin some tracks. DAMN I MISS IT. In truth, I ALWAYS did. Time for new memories!

get 1210s!!!! you will never regret it! if you at some point want to go "digital" and with a laptop you can use the 1210 as midi controllers for pitch and cue.

or you can get CDJ2000 and start buying mp3 and burn out on CDs. both are great ways.

the third option is going inside the computer only but i dont know anything about that, id never bring a laptop to a club!



if id start all over again today id probably go with CDJ2000 and DJM800, just because its almost the standard around.
