Is this normal? (sl1200 issue)

Hi all,

I was doing a little test yesterday. I put the pitch of both of my sl1200's at "0" en turned them on with the slipmat at the same position. They were perfectly synched for over a hour. I checked in intervals. Then I placed both pitch sliders at +3 en repeated the rest. But now after about 2 minutes one table seems to be faster than the other one. Is it that the pitches aren't exactly the same or what? Maybe you van help me?

Thanx,
Blighty

Yup, that's perfectly normal. No two decks will be identical in terms of pitch.

You may have noticed there are several rows (4) of dots on your platter.

The strobe dots are a reference of your pitch.

The big ones should seem to stand still when your pitch is at 0%
Now if I remember well :
The top ones should seem to stand still at -3.3%
The third row should seem to stand still at +3.3%
The lowest row should seem to stand still at +6%

In theory... The 0% is generally not a problem, because this position is locked by quartz.
On the other hand, it's rarely that pefect for the other positions. If you have a deck that behaves perfectly like it should following the above stated rules, consider yourself lucky, you got a collectors item in your hands!

Generally there will be one position where it will behave properly, but the others will be off a little bit. When I have to calibrate the pitch of SL's (had to do this in a shop) I always take the 6% dots as a reference. Syncing them will ensure me the closest pitch range to 8% like it should. But usually the -/+ 3.3% will be off. Nothing to worry about.

Hi Thy,

Thanx mate for that nice explanation, I really appriciate it!
I knew about those strobe dots, but the theory about the quartz and such is new to me hehe

Thanx again!

Greetings,
Blighty
