Traktor & Android

Anyone know if there is a way to use a tablet (like a Samsung Galaxy) with Traktor and turntables? I still want to use tables for control, I just don't want to bring a laptop.

To do that with software available today would probably be pretty dire.

Traktor isn't available for Android, so you'd have to run Windows or OSX on the tablet... there are tutorials for doing stuff like that floating around on the net, but then you'd probably have trouble getting things like sound card drivers to work reliably.

Why have you decided that taking a tablet is ok but taking a laptop isn't? Ergonomics?

If you just like the idea of using a touchscreen, you could get something like a Dell Latitude XT, which is a convertible laptop/tablet, then just run Windows on it. Or if you're desperate to use a Galaxy, maybe have a little shuttle or Mac Mini with Traktor running on it then VNC into it from the Galaxy tablet?

I'm worried that my laptop (only 2 years old) might end up failing on me so I might have to get a new one just to be sure. I wanted to get a tablet though so I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone. I think that may be a bridge too far really.

Will those mini-laptops handle it (maybe with a USB hard drive)? I also just don't like the look of a DJ staring at a laptop so I wanted something a little more gear based while still using turntables for control.

I have been 100% vinyl forever so this is going to be a big deal for me. Its really going to suprise people when they see that I have finally made the migration.

Completely with you on DJs staring at laptops, which is exactly why I got a Latitude XT myself You can just leave it flat on the surface and out of the way. This was just before the iPad etc really kicked off though - I might have waited to see what else came out if I'd had a bit of foresight!

I think I only actually played out with it twice before deciding to stick to CDs for a bit, but I do plan to start using it again for some sets.

I'm sure it'll only be time before Serato or Traktor comes out for modern tablets, but for now the options are slightly more limited.

When you say mini laptops, you mean netbooks? The problem is they don't have much memory, so won't be as reliable as a proper laptop or a Macbook - they'd be more susceptible to sound glitches etc.

Thanks for the help! Yeah, I meant netbooks. Looks like I just need to stick with the laptop for now and wait for the technology to catch up with me - which is a very odd thing to say coming from someone who is a vinylsaur! lol

Stanton has this -> http://www.stantondj.com/stanton-co...ems/scs4dj.html

It is all in one without a need for a laptop - but I don't trust stanton for anything beyond needles (heh, mostly headshells...) and it doesn't use turntables for control. But, it is truly all in one.

I just want to use turntables and the mixer. I guess with all the channels you can have with Traktor more screen space is desirable so it is what it is for now.
