I wanna get a pair of decks and a mixer but i have a question. If i got a mixer which shows the BPM's, would it be good for me?.. it's hard to explain but i'll try. Cos just say i got one which shows the BPM's, would it be "cheating" seeing that im not doing the mixing in my head and that if i spun at a club which had mixers without BPM counters, would i find it hard to mix seeing i dont have the luxury of having the BPM rate in front of me?
What im mainly asking is should i get a mixer with a BPM counter or a standard mixer as my first mixer?
Hopefully i made some sense in this post

yeah learn how to beat match without bpm. beginning with a bpm counter can ruin skills. A bpm counter is made just to make experienced people better.

For sure, I completely agree with these boys. Listen when I started mixing, I bought the ghettoest (shit) mixer I could find. So that way I could work my skills up that way. You know what I mean, play tetris on difficult then go to easy, your a fucking pro! hah
I highly suggest getting a mixer without bass control, their like 30$. hah Your learn how to beatmatch in like 3 days haha. I fucking swear.

my first mixer was a gemini ps-626 (the newer version with the beat lights). It really promotes thorough beat matching and it is under US 300$

i think mixers w/ bpm counters on em are shit. they do a horrible job of calculating complex rhythms, just a waste of time if you ask me. i say, learn to beat match on your own. but then again, if you're experienced and just dont feel like trying to find bpm's, it may come in handy.

BPM counter are sh*t if you are using it to learn how to beatmatch. I know this guy who solely uses BPM counter to assist him in his beatmatching....
After 5 months of practising and sh*t, he realized that the BPM counter is wrecking him and now he is starting afresh without the aid of BPM counter.
Talk about wasting time.
Your ears are ones you depend on and also get a good pair of headphones 'cos you'll be needing it.

another question... (note: im not a newbie to trance, just to mixing)...
to Beatmatch you change the speed on the turntables (pitch level or whatever) so the beats are going at the same speed and same time?.. am i correct in saying this or is it totally different..and also, you wouldn't try to mix a 150bpm song with a 135bpm song unless you want it to sound shit right?
