What's the purpose of buying tracks online?

Which are equal expensive than their vinyl/cd counterparts? I just bought a damn A&H DX midi-controller and i won't use it since i just figured out that a let's say a EP from a well known label is equal expensive as it's vinyl counterpart, especially if were talking about uncompressed WAV files.

What the hell were they thinking? Especially when i have my big doubts about compressed digital files, you can't neither touch or hug them and so they have no value for me.

I was thinking if i bought the vinyl and rip it to wav. Atleast i get the physical thing which does matter to me. But i can't count on my Technics players reliability? Or should i just buy some cd-players instead?

Used to feel the same way, but got over it. The music is what matters to me, not the medium.

Things are starting to get saner, as some places now offer albums in WAV form cheaper than the CD and vinyl versions.

If you're anal enough about sound quality to buy WAV (honestly I don't think it matters unless you play on a friggin Funktion One system) you really shouldn't play vinyl rips. Anyways, I think WAVs on Beatport are a scam. They tell all the bedroom DJs 'Hey you gotta play WAV if you wanna be professional!' and they go and pay 15$ (no joke, exclusive releases are even more expensive) for a new 4 tracker WAV EP.

The whole WAV "UPGRADE" thing is a joke too, they get the files send as WAVs and THEN compress them to mp3s. Also server storage costs have shrunk immensly in the last few years so charging more than a few cents for WAV storage is the most ridiculous thing ever anyways.

So that's my monthly Beatport rant. There are a few selected stores that sell WAV for less but Beatport still has loads of exclusive releases and the most broad selection.

The main argument is that if you pay for a vinyl, you have to buy all the tracks, where as buying digitally you can usually just cherry-pick the genuine quality and not have to pay for bad mixes you'll never play.

The other argument is that a lot of shit just isn't pressed to vinyl or released on CD at all, so you've got no option.

With albums and a lot of EPs, where I want all the tracks anyway, I will always buy the physical because you get a nice hard copy back up in case you drop your hard drive in a lake, and you also get a pretty little commodity to give you the consumerist purchasing thrill.

With Beatport I can have the track the day it comes out. If I wanted to buy the vinyl I'd have to wait several weeks to get it. But yea Beatport charges way too much.

They ones told us, people of my age, that in the future you could order your own selection of tracks as compilation on cd.

Well, that didn't make it, but downloading and burning is about the same now. So that's the purpose IMO, just buy what you like. And boy did that come like 15 years too late...

If I would get 50 Eurocent for every shit tracks at my cd collection, I better don't start counting...

the artists get a little bit of money, instead of none if you get all your tracks via piracy?

Saner? What the hell, wav's should be way cheaper than the physical thing not 0.50 euro cheaper.

So that people like me can upload them in HD on youtube so that every teenager can download it as an mp3 faster than they can click their mouse button.
