I have heard this sound a few times now and really like what it does rhythmically to a song but I have no idea what it is, called, or where to start to try to make it. Sorry, I havent been doing the trance thing for long.
To me it kinda sounds like someone playing 16th notes on a banjo! Its hard to describe. From the 3:35 mark of this track (link below) you can hear it, I will try to find a track where the same sound is more prominant.
at the one minute mark of this song it comes in, similar sound, doing 16th note type stuff, has a very nice, stereo phasiness to it. Its a very metallic sound.
sounds like a sequenced arpeggiation with amp modulations. I couldn't begin to tell you how to synthesize the "sound" but I'd break out a sequencer. Set it to 1/16ths and then change the gate to mirror the fluctuations. Then get to work on creating something similar.
Best way I can tell you to do that is to make a few second sample of the 1:00 mark in Madagascar and then loop it over and over while your playing with your sequencer.
You should get pretty close.

arpeggiated (fm?) sawtooth form with a high pass filter, maybe a bit of delay on it.
if you want to emulate it to see how it's structured, slow the track down and write out the notes. be aware, though, that the bassline structure also drives the track along

Banjo Trance!

Sounds very nice! I would be so happy to see the structure of that melody/arpeggio? It sounds there are so many notes going on!

hehe, banjo trance, I can see it now, all the dj's standing there with a piece of straw/grass hanging out their mouths.
I have a compilation cd which has 2 songs on it where you can really hear the sound but the track listing is incorrect so I have no idea what song it is!
the sound has a particular hollowness about it too and it seems either filter modulation or phasing/flanging effects give it movement.
