Hey guys,


Been doing the DJ thing for 5+ years now and I finally want to get into composing. I need an interface and don't know much about them. I really need them for monitors mostly. A friend suggested Apogee duet found on this local craigslist ad: http://modesto.craigslist.org/msg/2657980279.html

I also have a pretty a big gig coming up in a month at some where I will be DJing. Don't know if the interface will be useful for this?


My current setup includes:

1.MacBook Pro - i7, quadcore intel 2ghz, 4g memory
2.KRK Rokit 5 monitors (really need interface for these)
3.M-audio Axiom 25 (planning to upgrade this month)
4.Ableton 8 Live (Sylenth VST + Massive)
5.Pioneer HDJ-1000 headphones (I think these work great for minor mastering since I plan on hiring someone for final mastering)


I would love to record my live sets with an interface --
DJ Equip includes
1.Vestax PCV-500 mixer
2.2 1200 technique
3.Serato
4.2 JBL EON515XT Powered PA Speaker (15 Inch, 625 Watts) (on the way)


Your guys' insight would help me out a lot. I really want to purchase the right items

I think you'd get more mileage out of upgrading the KRKs and settling for a cheaper interface (for now). I'll let the DJs here answer the other questions.

What other interface would you go with? If I wanted to just use my Rokit 5s for a while.

Then, it's a moot point and you should just buy the best interface that you can afford and that meets your needs in terms of inputs/outputs (the DJs here can advise you on that point), which may well be the Duet (Apogee makes quality interfaces). However, understand that your monitors are the limiting factor in this equation, not the interface. In other words, you'd notice far more improvement in sound with better monitors than you will by using a better interface with cheap monitors, so buying an expensive interface for cheap monitors is not the best route, unless you plan on upgrading the monitors eventually.
