The strobe light is there to check that the speed of the platter is adjusted to zero correctly. When you have the pitch at 0, the big dot should appear to be motionless, at +3.3, the second from top dot should be motionless. It's so you can make sure that the pitch is set right.
As for the target/cue light, try playing in a club where lighting is minimal. It's pretty damn hard to see anything. It's so you can read th evinyl and find your cue points, although they don't really work that well

i bet i could make a bunch of money if I could come up with a target light replacement kit that had a real light that actually hit the grooves
yea, that light is a nice idea, but it's fu**in worthless

it's just not tall enough. The light needs to come down on the grooves to be able to see it. The light is actually level with the record... friggen useless.

What dex do you guys have?? I have 1200 MKII's and the light pops over the wax and is killer in low light. All you have to do is put your head over the wax and you can see everything perfectly.

M3D's. the light is worthless on mine. even with the record like mentioned. and no, i dont have the rubber mat on there.
what i need to do is rip apart the decks and add a BNC connector for a gooseneck light. that'd be tight

^^ that sounds like a cool project to do.. though i don't know what a gooseneck light is. but along those lines, imagine having a neon light or something attached! bright green or purple!
i myself have numark tt-100's, and although the light isn't very strong when looking from above, i find that if i bend down a tiny bit, i'll be at the right angle where the light reflects off the grooves perfectly, and i can see everything. i have no problems with it usually.
though when using the 1200's at local record shops, i find that the lights on them are pretty good, at least much better than on my numark's.

ya know that flexible stuff that stays the shape you bend it to? kinda like the flexy part of a straw? same deal.. you bend it where you want the light, it stays there
usually, there's a BNC jack that it plugs into.. and that gives it power. alot of commercial mixing boards come with the BNC connectors w/ 12 volts on them so you can just drop on a light.
hmm.. MK4? lol

I've got the 1200s. And i really don't think they do much good in the dark, although i love mixing in the dark and seeing all the lights come on. Looks sooo perty.
