What Do Dj's Do To Stay Awake Before Playing?

LOL before you start posting pictures of lines of coke/meth, I'm talking more about the dj's that don't party, and yet somehow are fully functional showing up at a party at 6am after just getting off of a plane a few hours prior (getting finger fucked by TSA agents, baggage handlers etc)

It always amazed me that these guys can travel about non-stop, be jet lagged, pissed off, exausted, and still get on the decks and murder it. I know it seems like the dj's get all the glory, but I think people also forget the sacrifices that these guys make with their minds and bodies in order to provide entertainment for other people's parties.

Feel free to share any first or second hand dj experiences regarding this topic. Does a dj's body get used to sleep deprivation over the years or does your body handle it worse and worse as time goes on? Me personally, I'd probably fall asleep in the back room of the party while waiting to play. While thinking of some of the places I've partied recently, the idea of passing out in the side room of some crack den doesnt seem very appealing or settling at all.

Do you ever get burned out?

Yeah, I mean, sometimes the schedules are really [bad]; I mean, literally, you only get a certain amount of time to sleep, you know, and then you’re straight to the gig, flying for six or seven hours, landing, maybe a couple of hours of sleep, straight to playing, and then the same again, somewhere else again. But that’s a minor thing for what I’m actually doing, because usually once you get in front of the crowd, any tiredness or burned-outness you just override. But what I’ve been doing recently is I’ve just allowed myself, you know, the odd weekend here or there, where I just chill and do nothing. I think you just need to do that. You need to allow yourself time to recharge the batteries, because much as I really love traveling, when you’re away from home so much, all the home stuff just starts to accumulate. So when you’re just coming back for a day or two days and then leaving, you kind of get stressed out with the fact that, “Oh, I haven’t dealt with this, I need to do that that, etc., etc.” So it’s nice to just have those days when you are just at home, and you are just watching TV and you are just doing normal things. It kind of brings you down to earth, really.

Although, one must remember, Dogwood is not human either.

Their body probably somewhat adapts to the schedule with the years. Although that kind of schedule will take a toll on anyone's body with the years. I'm actually surprised that a lot of the guys have 20+ years of touring under their belt and are still going strong.

I think what happens is that the guys that can't handle the schedule quit early or never make it big, so the guys that are left are naturally more resistent. If you'd take random people from the street, their body would probably break down within a year of touring.

A lot of DJs echo Diggers and say the adrenaline rush of playing overrides tiredness. Although the majority of club nights happen on a Friday or Saturday so they will get most of the week to recover.

drugs

except for the older guys.

But ya, there is nothing different between djs and rock bands. And every rock band does their first big tour with cocaine and xanax. Would say the EDM scene is just worse because it is right in front of you all the time every time. You are being offered before you even ask. It is hard to say no when you are being paid ridiculous amounts of money for doing absolutely nothing. Why not. Eventually. they all crash and start to realize they have to think of it more as a business and then they kinda start sucking as djs and producers.

No junk no soul lol.

Do pro dj's that are into drugs travel with their drugs or do they have dealers in every city that they rely on? Seems like it would be a huge mistake to be boarding a plane with crystal meth on your person but I know of big name dj's that do this.

K and alcohol are your drugs of choice? I usually get a laugh out of your jibberish writings. Its like Ket-am-inized poetry.

some djs actually haved veiled references to drugs in their riders. they also almost always include vodka , chasers, and sushi.
