this was the music of the streets, most of the nyc public school kids who chilled on the streets from the mid-late 90s ended up in dance halls and this was the top reggae/dancehall hits outside of rap. back in the days we didn't have 'clubs' to go to or lounges and what we did was we would rent out church basements or school cafeterias and throw our own parties there complete with fliers and all. you'd get mad schools coming through in your district and some from all over.
