TORONTO - Talks between Ron MacLean and the CBC are back on.

Face to face meeting scheduled for Thursday
CBC Television made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, in a terse, two-sentence news release. The move comes after fans, politicians and corporate sponsors raised a national outcry demanding the CBC re-sign MacLean as host of Hockey Night in Canada.
An example of just how seriously some hockey fans are taking the news: on Wednesday two of them stood in front the CBC Broadcasting Centre in downtown Toronto carrying a sign that read 'Honk for Ron.'
Over the last two days the CBC has been inundated with thousands of e-mails, phone calls and demands to keep MacLean on the air.
Hockey Night in Canada's main sponsor, Labatt, has even waded into the debate asking the CBC to re-open negotiations. Now, CBC management say talks will resume.
The head of CBC media relations, Ruth Ellen Soles, sent out a news release saying: "CBC Television announced today (Wednesday) that it is re-opening negotiations with Ron MacLean through his agent, Don Meehan. All parties have agreed that effective immediately there will be no further comment until the negotiations have concluded."
"I'm going on a basis whereby I'm pleased that they've called ... given what's transpired to date. But I can't afford to be optimistic or pessimistic," said Meehan.
A face to face meeting between the two sides is scheduled for Thursday.
News of MacLean's departure from Hockey Night in Canada was made public on Monday. Ever since, hockey fans across Canada have been making their voices heard. Meehan says the groundswell of support for MacLean should prove Canadians care deeply about the game, the show and the public broadcaster.
"It's been amazing. I've spent 22 years representing players and I've never seen a reaction of this nature before. And it's a reaction that's developed across the country."
Talks are expected to resume on Thursday - just nine days before the new season of Hockey Night in Canada begins.

The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all change to silver glass...and then you see it...
...white shores...and beyond...the far green country under a swift sunrise."
