Feminism

Art history teacher today during break was talking about how she got hit on at a bar during a meeting with a colleague the day before and the guy came up to her and asked her if she was Asian (she is half Japanese, half white).

This guy in the back goes "why were you at the bar?"

She replies "thats where we decided to meet."

He goes "well you should have expected to be hit on then."

Fucking whole class (mostly girls, mostly young idealistic girls [not that there is anything wrong with idealism, but just giving a sense of how vocal they are]) just go "what the fuck!? NO YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!" and he then was ripped apart in class by pretty much everyone.

BTG, your sister would have been proud.

Yea, honestly it was a bit of an over reaction, the problem was it sounded close both in wording and contextually to the "well you were asking to get raped."

Actually wait, thats what he said, he didn't say expected, he said asking.

Now that I think about it thats pretty bad...

He also told her he was part of a pub crawl, so I assume that had something to do with it.

What does this have to do with Feminism? What the guy said was incredibly stupid. No, not everyone needs to be treated like a delicate little flower, but asking someone about their race as an opening line smacks of fetishism, and as an approach, is harassment. I am not saying this guy should go to jail or something, nor that there wasn't overreaction from the class, but how we speak to others matters.

The fact that you are framing this as a feminist issue when it has so very much more to do with racial fetishism is why people overreact to such attitudes. The obtrusion of idiotic statements like "she was asking for it!" is really surface level lack of common sense, and the issues that feminist philosophy takes to task are nested far beneath this narrative.

It was both, and the racial fetishism was acknowledged in class as well, but the anger by everyone in class was directed at the kid in class saying the "she was asking for it" type of comment.

Honestly I felt the most awkward and unsettling part was when she did the one sided dialog of the guy hitting on her using me as her in the conversation... Definitely one of the more odd teachers I've had.

I get how the situation is both, because the normalized attitude (maybe!) of this guy seemed to be an extension of the rape culture narrative. What I questioned you about was the seeming characterization of feminism being encapsulated by little more than a class full of angry, young women.

Surely you must know this is disingenuous at some point, and really rather an appendix to Lewis' Law.

Haha... Not really, this is my third quarter in a row taking a class by her so she knows I'm not easily offended/weirded out. Her stare those was quite awkwardness inducing though... She didn't blink...

Hal this is the same class though where one of the girls suggested everyone share what gender pronouns they preferred having used.

Always request zhe/zhim/zher with those people. They couldn't possibly remember to not fuck that up- then you get to feign outrage and everyone pays attention!

It's a disease for self-centered spoiled princesses with victim complexes who have quite literally no problems, so in order to fuel their need to constantly convince everyone they're opressed in order to get things handed to them with no effort on their part, they need to constantly invent problems for themselves. It also makes for a convenient excuse to never take responsibility for your poor decisions or accept that you're not 100% perfect.
"I cheated on my boyfriend with 3 guys, but I can get away with it because I'm liberated! Don't call me a slut! You're oppressing me!"
In a nutshell, this is feminism.
