At first glace these look a bit high - probably what they get for festival fees in their strongest markets.

There's A LOT more guys in the sub 5k range - generally the least anyone will fly over from Europe is about $2k with solid 'B level' guys costing about $3-6k. After that there a huuuge gap between the 'A level' guys which are generally $15k - $30k for club gigs, more for festivals / MSG etc..

The thing is, the artist cost is usually only half (or less) of the total expenses, so while $2-5k might seem like a great deal, if the whole event costs $10k that artist needs to be strong enough to pull.

This is all relative to the market of course. A booking in Boston or Philly might be half of what NYC is but they need to coordinate flight-shares for it to make sense for the artist.

**Btw I can really only speak to techno / underground / club gigs since that's all I have experience with so who knows for rock etc..

big rock acts get a substantial portion of the gross when they play...
wonder how much the Stones take-home was from their 550 million 2005-2007 tour was?

(reportedly, U2 didn't make too much for their 2009-2011 tour, cause of extremely e high production costs....)

some of these numbers can't be right.
Maroon 5 400-600k?

when they played the Holmdel PAC (PNC), tickets were selling so well, that live-nation was dumping the lawn tickets for 10 bucks to attendees of other events taking place not very long before this one...

Depends In the city, the previous way they were treated, weather it is en route to another show close by. Rates are never non negotiable.

If you are picking by the numbers, you will pay the rate and you will get the crowd you probably don't want to be around. It will be in an overpacked club and dancing , well you can't but you can pogo all night.

The good promoters know the music, they know who is just pushing that tier so the music is fresh, the prices are reasoble , and people going are there because they actually care.
