static electricity?

here is a pretty anal question for you guys:

i like to put the circular plastic sheet underneath my slipmats because i like the feel of it when i am queing the beat. however, i think that the plastic sheet generates a lot of static electricity because after i mix i can take off the plastic sheet and it will stick to my shirt. i dont like to use just the slipmat because i am afraid of the chance that dust from the mat might get into the motor from chaffing against the two holes in the platter. will this really happen? if so what is worse, a chance of static electricity or dust?

I've never heard of anyone having problems with dust from slipmat going into the motor. If you have good quality slipmats and keep them clean the chance of anything going down those 2 holes in the platter are minimal. I'd be more worried about the static electricity. It's probably not enough to short any circuitry but it'll probably charge your records and attract dust to them hence leaving you with more wear on your vinyl and stylus.
