Because it's a new and generally anticipated release I felt was worth more publicity than however much it would get from being filed away in the review thread. That little sprinkling of an appraisal doesn't amount to much of a review, either.

There are some nice tracks on here, as ever, but listening to a Pop Ambient disc in full always makes me feels like I'm slowly drowning in morphine. Some emotional variety wouldn't go amiss.

Yeah, every year I sample the new Pop Ambient and hope for just that, but that kind of thing just doesn't happen often. Don't get me wrong, I love how the series sits near-opposite that Ibiza-Lounge-Sunset-Bar variety of chillout, but 14 editions worth of droning haze has left me with more than I know what to do with. Every now and then, they strike gold with that incredible balance, like on Pop Ambient 2009.
