I remember seeing Tiesto and AvB at a relatively small venue back in 2004 or 2005 and it was actually a super fun night.
Of course I was 17 and on drugs, didn't know a damn thing about EDM. So it could have been awesome or awful. In my case: Awesome. The club I think only held 1000 people, but I'm pretty sure they let in way more than that despite regulations and shit. There was no air conditioning and to this day I don't understand how with all the pills (:gsmile in my system I didn't overheat and die.
Back on topic though, it doesn't surprise me that Tiesto is pandering to a crowd like that.
He helped (how much is unknown to me) bring EDM into the "spotlight", and the results are a few people of the "old guard" who actively still seek out good, somewhat lesser known EDM and the other billion or so teenagers who will forget EDM by the age of 19. (And the 17-19 crowd may not even know who Tiesto is, but because of the drugs and flashy lights and boom boom tunes spend big $$$ to go see him).
Maybe he's like the Paul McCartney of EDM now or some shit to some people. Their older brothers or something partied to this guy's music and now they go see him because he's a "legend" but don't really get it. I dunno.

he's a business man now. he seen this edm sound coming up and capitalized on it. he dont give 2 shits about the music or his fans now. just the awards and being in the spot light
its a shame. i think like 15 years ago when he was starting to make his name known in the music scene he really did care about the music and taking people on a journey

It doesn't bother me. I've never been one to base my music identity around any one artist. For good or bad there's this tendency for people to cling to the past or a recognizable name. Whether its music or movies. With the common complaint that they've sold out.
