Well...Giant was definantly the spot in LA to see good talent. Oakey, PvD, Jules, Tong, and the such have spun there and many more. The vibe is usually pretty good and the sound is awesome.....I've been many a times and usually leave very happy...
Yeah...the lines are pretty bad, but if you get the presale tix, you can just walk right in. No fuss, no muss, no bullshit. And once you get it, you find it completely worth it. How many other clubs guarantee you a spot to see your favourite DJ without having to *risk* waiting in line ......
21 and over.....whether that's good or bad depends on you...
As for the other clubs, I wish them success...but most have tried to copy Giant and have failed. Funktion looked promising but didn't last two months. There are some other clubs that are opening...and I wish them the best.
Afterhours at the Palace are suposed to be good. I've never personally been, but Ferry Corsten and Armin have spun at some of the afterhour parties thrown there. But you have to make sure of which party is going on at the Palace on any given night.....
Now...for the other half of the story
Giant recently lost their contract to throw their club at the Circus (which is the venue they have been using). Spundae productions (who run clubs at 1015 Folsom in San Francisco) are now the promoters for Saturday nights at the Circus. To add even more to this story, Giant is moving to another location.
So...
That means, that we'll have two good clubs in LA. Finally! Some competition. I'd like to see where Giant winds up and how Spundae does on Saturday nights...

I can't say much about the clubs in L.A. but if you're in the Hollywood area, check out 100.7 on the fm dial. It's an all trance (usually)and no commercials station that a couple of friends of mine own and operate. The best reception is the area between Hollywood & Silverlake. I do a lot of one and two hour set for them but you'll mainly hear all your favs (PVD, Tiesto, Oakenfold, Irish, Sasha.... etc.). We were doin' an internet stream (and will be again) but thanks to Northpoint, PacBell and the downfall of many ISPs, right now we're in the process of tryin' to hook up with a reliable ISP that can provide us with good up speed so we can put out a good quality stream.
(more on that as the situation develops).
So, if any TAs here are interested in submitting a good mixed set (anywhere between 30 min. and 2 hours.....1 hour sets are usually the best) feel free to contact me. Be aware of two things, though. 1: There's no mention of who's set is on (except for the occasional interrupts from Pete Tong during "essential mixes"...we're working on editing those out, too.) And....2: There's absolutely no $$ involved. We don't make a penny from any of this (we spend a lot of them keeping it going, though) It's all for the sake of TRANCE. (and for the sake of not having to listen to radio DJ chatter, Britney Spiers, rap, Back Street Boys.....you get the picture)
