Most overrated tracks on Youtube

I'm not talking about the heavily marketed Avicii\Skrillex\EDM stuff being pushed to no end by the unwashed masses and BIG money.

I'm talking about your regular 4/10 "meh" House\Trance\Electronica tracks with 100,000+ views while actual gems get about 1,000 views if the producer is lucky enough.

I think this one is a good example:

Almost 1 Million views, The comments are gushing about this track as if it's one of the best tracks of all times.
No doubt that deep house is deep bro...

I just don't understand.

That's very philosophical mate.

There's someone in the comments to Viber's youtube vid suggesting someone do a "Tron: Legacy edit" of this and I don't know what the fuck that means. And it's the least weird thing they're saying.

I suppose I guessed Lane 8's connection w/ Anjunadeep correctly. I suppose it's decent enough in that corner, but I'm giving it penalty points for that clap

I agree with the 4/10 rating, maybe a 3.

Firstly pay absolutely no attention to views. Sorry in advance for the wallk of text but I promise it's worth it.

A friend of mine worked for a startup that provided content for Youtube.

They had about 50 employees and she was marketing manager. It was one of those cliched startups; no assigned desks, lots of hipsters, some very geeky coders, gummy bears and sour worms in jars on every desk, a games room etc.

However, there were four super geeky guys that basically were mute. They didn't communicate with anyone and no one apart from ownership actually knew what they did.

From time to time, investors (existing or potential) would come to the office and they'd all have to look busy and jump on their phone calls etc.

Anyway, I was looking at some of the content and the staggering view numbers they were getting for some of their content just didn't make sense. A fairly boring interview with a no one was in the millions of views, shit like that.

My friend was worried becuase the company was all exit strategy - it was purely about building something that someone huge like AOL or FB would come in buy them for tens of millions.

One night she went out with some work colleagues and the CFO was with them. She got him drunk and started pestering about the future of the company. He basically said they had maybe 3 or 4 months left at best before the money ran out and they're all out of a job.

She's now freaking out and tried to find out what those supergeeks do and even he has no idea, nor does HR.

Now she's really worried and it turns out one of her colleagues is having an affair with the lead programmer and even he's not allowed to interact with the supergeeks, but he figured it out.

Their sole job was to manipulate youtube views, and they figured out a way to do that can never be detected. Some giant ghost node network building millions of fake views.

Their entire revenue streams and valuation were based off views and it's all fake.

Apparently there's tons of companies doing it and youtube, while they don't want the platform completely devalued, don't throw as much as they should at it becuase they get a cut of those ad revenues, so the more views (real or not), the more money youtube makes.

So in other words, views on youtube are completely meaningless, and that thing with 100,000 might not even have a legit 1000 people that clicked on it.

That's not one of his best songs but Lane 8 is a pretty talented producer. Quite like this one:

Haha, that was nice read, but i am aware of that.

I referred to it in my opening post as well - i understand how the numbers behind guys like Avicii\Skrillex\Swedish house mafia etc are inflated.
It just doesn't seem reasonable that the views for more adult(? ) , yet mediocre tracks will be inflated in the same fashion.

If you're a label who tries to create fake hype, why not sign some shitty EDM-Pryda Snare producers and inflate the views for their already "established" kind of music?

I will try to come up with more examples as time goes by.
