Maybe unpopular opinion these days but I can't see whats all the fuss about Nina Kraviz all these years. Her production is mediocre, dj skills are not her strong side, big room sets are bad even though she knows to play good tracks.. |
While I was at ADE last year I was walking down a random side-street in the red light district and happened to walk past the studio of Red Light Radio. Kraviz was playing at that moment and there was a small crowd huddled around the window staring at her. I peered in for a moment, but you can’t hear anything out on the street, so I said something to the effect of “What’s the big deal? You can’t hear what she’s playing.” One bearded wanker breathed, “Oh, she’s easily the best. She’s the whole reason I’m here.” Clearly she inspires that kind of cultish reaction in certain people, although I can’t see it myself. There seem to be a few female DJs around at the moment who play high tempo, pseudo-old-school techno and prance around a lot behind the decks, all ripping off Ellen Allien’s shtick from 15 years ago.

I'm with your guys - I don't get the fuss about her and to be fair her sets just aren't my taste. EXCEPT when she plays at Dommune. Idk if you guys listened the set but she ranges from Conceiled Project to Theo Parrish to Aphex Twin.. it is just THAT great. The rest of her stuff is dull, though (specially when she plays at a gigantique crowd).
Obs: "for ben" is a nice track, maybe my favorite from her.

Yeah, I've heard similar stuff about her and it is always from the same kind of people.. I respect everyone's taste, and don't want to discuss it, but when you don't even hear whats shes playing and you talk about it that way... Meh..
Totally agree with Ellen Allien reference.
