Weapons Inspections

Whenever we discuss Iraqs weapons people always say something along the lines of "All the other countries with weapons of mass destruction have allowed inspections so people know how many they have." My question is what exactly does this accomplish? Just because the hole world knows that country x has a nuclear bomb it is still quite possible for them to detonate it. I imagine I'm missing something here, though I'm not sure what.

an accounted for nucleur missle is much better than one which 'could potentially exist' or one that comes out of thin air.....

if we found them, they would be destroyed nonetheless

The USA alone has enough T.N.T to kill every man, woman, and child on this planet 27 times. Thats not counting other types of explosives.

And thats a fact... :P

I'm well aware of that(though I thought it was 23, but either way it doesnt matter). Infact that was a big reason i asked the question. What's the diffrence between a concealed weapon, and one out for everyone to see?

People can plan for something that they know exists or does not exist. Anyway, im sure America know that Iraq do have such weapons, they just want the rest of the world (as in people who watch cnn) to know that they have weapons. Therefore if and when they do decide to attack them they can use that reason to justify it.

Well in Iraq's case I believe the big deal is that it was stipulated in the peace treaty following the gulf war that Iraq was to abandon all weapons of mass destruction programs. Thus the whole point of the weapons inspectors are to find out if Iraq is violating treaty agreements ... if so then they're screwed. Also I think it's important to find out if he has weapons of mass destruction since he's probably not the most rational person in the world to have them.

THE POWER IS DISSUASION!

Isreal is widely known to have the nuclear bomb yet they don't admit it .

Talking about the other *big* countries, the fact that they all have the nuclear bomb, and publicly let it known creates a stability in dissuading other countries from dropping nuclear bomb on them.
At least that is the major theory behind *why* all *stable* countries should have the nuclear bomb.

The deal with Iraq tough : is the usa going in to fight the Iraqie people ? or FOR the Iraqie people?
Don't forget that the people are opressed , freedom of speech is minimal ... and the peoples will to over turn the Dictator is weak.
And I'm not saying this just cause I believe it, but cause I heard a man who is from Iraq say it.

I found a transcript of the interview conditions under saddam hussein rule

That was an interesting article...
An inside perspective is rare and appreciated since all we tend to see is the Western media propoganda...

Never forget you are fighting one common enemy : non sense.

And your beliefs are the ones *planted* in your mind.

Exactly.
That reminds me of an anology from Earl Nightingale (the god-father of postive mental attitude).

It's the old law of the planter -- whatever we plant, that's what we will reap.
Earl Nightingale had a wonderful analogy concerning sowing and reaping.
He noted that if we plant nightshade, a deadly poison, we gain nightshade. If we plant wheat, we gain wheat. We gain the bad in abundance, just as we gain the good. It all depends on what we plant in our lives and in our minds.

The mind does not care what we plant, lets just be careful what we do.
And hey, we all have weeds...lets not let that block the foresight to understanding what we don't know and learn (plant) about it instead of throwing up the arms and give way to them (the weeds).

It's a hard thing sometimes trying to understand where we get our believes and values, it could have been planted years and years ago.

It's harder still to make that conscious effort of knowing that the field you've been standing in, could be wrong...

have they?
have U.N. weapons inspectors been to pakistan, israel or usa to check?

if they have then thats cool. if they havent why not? why pick on this guy? hes probably not a nice guy and he probably runs his country pretty poorly but if all these other countries have these weapons why cant this country? hes a madman? he could bomb anyone with them? well so can any other country! india and pakistan are both nuclear powers and they seem more likely to attack each other than iraq. some things i hear the usa say are that they need to get rid of them because they could attack us and its a threat to us. well isnt the usa a threat to iraq?? if usa can justify actions like that why cant iraq? im not supporting their 'government' or dictator or whatever is happening over there but i dont like the way they get treated in this situation. i believe that there are trade sanctions against iraq? so they dont get much from other countries? yet everyone wants the oil! the movie 'three kings' was on the other night, and i think one thing that stuck in my mind was when the iraqi soldier is interrogating the american, he grabs a can of oil and pours it on him, saying 'here's your fucking stability!!!'.

and wtf is up with 'pre-emptive' strikes?? "we think you might be dangerous so we'll bomb you just in case"?? and then enforce 'no-fly-zones' so they can't do anything back?
in the gulf war, did usa actually declare war on iraq? or was it like vietnam where they just decided to step in by themselves.

this is not meant as a personal attack on any particular country, no matter what it seems like.
lol i cant even remember the subject at the time of writing this last sentence.
