newb, noob, n00b, nub....

these have to be the dumbest words EVER... you can't play a game of cs (counter-strike), or read a forum without some idiot saying this god-awful word... i don't see how being new at something (hence being a "noob") makes your opinions less credible (in the case of forums) or your skills weaker (in the case of cs) than others. people who use the word newb clearly have some sort of superiority complex. my theory is that there are 2 types of people who like to throw this word around...

1) those individuals cannot succeed socially in the real world, but have worked their way to a high position in the online community and are dishing out the same abuse that they recieve in real life.

2) people who are indeed new to the online community and try to gain credibility and acceptance by putting others down, thus making themselves look like an experienced and respectable member of the online community...

i play a lot of cs, so i just use that as an example... anyone who plays knows what i'm talking about... a rookie player makes a rookie mistake and you see stuff like:

"what a fucking noob"
"noobs suck"
"fucking noob teammates"

i know that if i were playing hockey instead of cs, and some idiot lashed out at his team or an opponent like that, they'd be tuned right there on the ice. what gives people the right to put others down like that? these elitists wouldn't be talking so big if they weren't hiding behind some anonymous nickname in their parent's basement.

and this problem isn't limited to cs... i see a lot of people on this forum lashing out at "newbs". yes, they are NEW to the forum, and yes, they might ask some questions that seem dumb... its gotten to the point where people are AFRAID to ask questions or express an opinion for fear of being flamed... i see a lot of posts that start like this.

"sorry for the noob question. please don't flame me...."

this isn't right. people shouldn't have to live in fear like this...

quiet n00blar! j/k...

elitism has always been a part of the online community. Even back in the days of 2400 baud modems and logging on to BBSes, there were already "elite" communtiies forming, hence the term "l33t", and "lamers" hence "llammas"

Meh, those CS noob bashers are prolly just bored suburban teenage dorks with nothing better to do. Its not like those insults hurt. Oh wow, you're so much more skilled at video games than I am. I'm so hurt. :P

hahaha... i remember those days... i had a 2400 baud when everyone else had their blazing fast 14.4k modems, hahahaha... yes.. i was the epitome of noob/lamer back then, =P.

seriously... what makes these people so "l33t"? because they've spent their whole lives in the parent's basement honing their cs skills to the point where they feel they have the authority to call others "noobs"? or that they've spent every waking hour on a forum collecting posts so that they could be a supreme tranceaddict and rag on the noobs?

i'll never understand how newb is meant to be an insult....

n00bs = the dudes that call me a cheater in Rogue Spear: Urban Operations.

n00bs are the one's that whine when they lose 'cuz they lack the skill and understanding of the game. n00bs are not necessarily the 'newbies' who just started playing the game. It has entirely everything to do with they way they hold themselves after they lose.

just 'cuz I'm the 1337 k!110r/R4p0r in rogue spear, doesn't mean I cheat. n00bs teh suck. :-)
