Exploration of Composition (take two)

Ok, we'll try this again, no arguing this time.

In this thread, I invite everyone to:

- Trade tips on how to make emotional tracks really emotional
- Trade harmony/arrangement/chord voicing techniques
- Examine the chord progressions, harmony, etc. of favorite tracks
- Discuss influences, recent trends and "the classical connection"

ok... seeing as how the last thread got ruined...
i'm going to start by saying this:

- it is good to generally plan out your chords on a keyboard or synth... unless if you just have that musical ability to think up good chords on the spot...
- it is generally a good idea for emotional tracks to have both major and minor chords... that's what makes it emotional... the switch from a major chord to a minor chord and vice versa..

... here are just a couple pointers to get started... plz don't flame... but let's hear some "constructive criticism" or advice instead...

hes right, a good music is made out of negatives, like long lines, and on the other hand short lines, and pay attention that every music has layers, specially trance, heres an example:
drum beats-
snar : ----x-------x---
hhat : --x---x---x---x-
chat : -x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

in each layer the spaces are multiplying, the negatives in music is what we like in it, so make contrasts...
hmmmmmm, i belive that this will be some help...

If you have an nice melody line, try changing the piece so some of the original melody notes are played by a different instrument -- probably best to be a similar-sounding instrument.

For example: You have a loop played instrument 1:
( A B C D C B A )
Try changing it so instrument 1 plays:
( A - C D C - A )
and instrument 2:
( - B - - - B - )

Or some other variation.
