uh, i'm pretty sure that's not a full range speaker, it's a subwoofer.

it even says on that page!

quote:
The 18" subwoofer features a 3" voice coil and diecast aluminum frame with vented magnet assembly to dissipate generated heat. The folded horn design makes the PS-18B the ideal choice for nightclubs and discos requiring high sound pressure levels. Although the usable frequency response ranges from 40 to 350 Hz, we recommend biamping the PS-18B with a full-range PS-12 or PS-15 at a crossover frequency of 80 Hz.

you will need some speakers as well, i suggest these:

Also, the frequency coverage is only 40hz to 350hz which would make trance sound pretty crappy

yep, it's a sub. You should look for something that covers at least from 100Hz to 20,000Hz. Below 100Hz is desirable, but the price will also increase too. I'm sure you can find something starting in the 40-60Hz range for a decent price.

Not only is that a subwoofer, it is a club subwoofer. That SPL (sound pressure level) will blow out your ear drums if you try to use something with that much power as a monitor. Not only that, 800Watts?! Are you willing to fork out several hundred dollars to get an amp that can support that?

For your room (I'm assuming that is what you want it for), all you really need is 100-250watts--and even then, you probably won't use all of that wattage. Don't bother getting speakers that are beyond the capability of your receiver unless you plan on upgrading sometime in the future. Speakers will last for a long time--I've had my Pioneers for close to 9 years now and they still work great!

The S-H252B-K model ($200/pr) and the S-H253B-K model ($200/pr) from Pioneer (www.pioneerelectronics.com ) are pretty good deals. They don't look very nice, but I'd think from their stats and my great experiences with Pioneer (all of my dj eq is Pioneer, including headphones and my home theater speakers are Pioneer) they should sound very nice--especially for only $200!

yep those would do.

if this is for DJing at anything more than a small party, you are also going to want a sub, an amp to drive it, and monitor speakers, and an amp to drive those.
