Phono output...

3 days ago i bought a Phono... Now, it seemd that the phono gives another signal than an AUX (i toughed it was the same, stupid me). so i started looking up some things, and i read that the mic signal is about the same as the phono signal. So I connected the output of the phono to the mic input of my comp => from there, to my music system.

Now, the signal isnt very good and it still is rather quiet. I looked for alternatives. I could by a amplifier/receiver with a phono input (witch is rather expensive...) OR i could buy a mixer. But i didnt get the part about the mixer very well, so my question was: when i connect the phono on the mixer and i connect the master output to the AUX input of my music system, will i have good sound?

Thx!

Oh, and has anyone a tip about a good mixer at a good price(i'm quite broke now ) The maximum cost is 100-120$ (100-120€)

you need a phono preamp. whoever told you a phono input was the same as a mic input was wrong, they are not the same. you definitely will need a phono input.

you could buy a cheap mixer or amplifier with this on it, but it would be overkill for what you are trying to do, and for the price you want to pay it would be crappy anyway.

You can get a dedicated phono pramp though, i suggest you get this:

yeah, a mixer will do as well, as it will have at least two phono inputs. it will also have an output, which will be a line, in other words you can plug it in your AUX or CD in on your amp or straight into your computer and it will record.

if you plan on starting to DJ, then i advise getting a mixer, may as well.

as to what mixer, well... start looking, and use the search.

pioneer DJM 300 is a good mixer imo, or maybe a gemini umx series if you wanna go cheaper?

lol, yes, it will work if you only have one turntable instead of two.

actually
a mic level and phono level signal are almost the same in voltage
i can't remember the exact number but it's only a few millivolts at best
both need a pre-amp to be brought up to a line level signal
(once again, the proper figure eludes me)

you can take the output of your phono and have it run directly into your computer

first you need to ground your table
then you have to have a converter to take the RCA signal to a 3.5mm TRS connection

put it into your mic input on your soundcard and make sure the pre-amp is selected in your sound card settings
(most commonly indicated as a +20dB selection box)

then you should be good to go

anything that operates at a mic level signal needs a pre-amp to be heard properly
and on the flipside, anything that operates at a line level signal shouldn't be put into an input with a pre-amp
if you do this it will be "double amped"
and result in an over saturated signal

phono and mic signals might be about the same level, but the phono signal has less base (due to RIAA curve) so you'll need some sort of phono preamp or a mixer.

I started with a cheap phono preamp from radioshack it worked ok, but uses 9volt batteries so you have to remeber to turn it off when not in use.

Also it's best to use the line input on you sound card, cuz most mic inputs are mono.

99% of recievers still have phono inputs, find an old reciever
