I hate it when i play some trance in front of someone who doesn't listen to it regularly and they call it techno. Like the other nite for example: we were riding around and there was 5 of us in the car but only me and one of my friends listen to trance. We put in a cd and the people who didn't listen to it were saying wow techno is sweet. I was like dammit its trance theres a difference between techno and trance. I told them some differences but they were still like its still called techno to me.
Can everyone give their opinions on differences between techno and trance that would be more convincing that they aren't the same.....
Thanks

They define Trance as Techno because the word "Trance" is not a common word to define that type of music.
I hear ya bud, all the people in my school say.. "Listen to your sick techno beats"..
Heh.. but I say w/e.. they're either too stupid to understand, or they just don't give a damn.. who cares.. trance is trance.. if other people call it techno, tell em to shove it.. it's like classifying.. Heavy Metal.. as Rock Music but it reality it's a different genre..
yep i definitley get it.... it gets annoying though haha

its people that dont know the difference that call trance techno...
trance came from techno (cross bred with house music) but the two differ veeeery much.
techno tends to have less of the breakdowns, more of the weird ends to sets of bars... techno has the more metallic harder sound whereas trance has sweeping synths... most techno doesnt have much of a melody, but the main riff to the song will be a combination of noises.
although it may not seem it to the untrained ear.. trance beats are much more repetetive, in the sense that its the same loop over and over a lot of the time. techno will have the same loop, then every say 4 bars it will end slightly differently.
techno works less with the 32's and 16's and concentrates on the 8's and 4's... if u get what i mean. each phrase is not always 32 beats... u may have your main hook going, then at the end of that lot u can have a short phrase of say 4 beats that resolves. a prime example of this is 'Charm' by Mauro Picotto.
hope this helps

Trance/Techno
Ohh, I think every "Trancer" do have the same problem but a simple differens is that techno dosent have any melody or very short... trance always have one... Isn´t that right?
