I currently use MusicMatch jukebox for this as it allows high quality streaming straight into MP3.
However, as I am sure many of you are away, the R1 Essential Mix is broadcast between 2.00AM and 4.00AM Sunday morning on the Radio in the UK. For me to rip it using MMJB means I have to be awake to start the ripping, and then to stop it two hours later (or leave my compy on a timeswitch which just switches it off at about 10 past 4 )
I'm after a program which allows *good* recordings using a timeswitch.
I remember seeing one a while back, but couldn't get it to work properly.
Anybody got any ideas, or use one themselves?
Thanks

Conversion
Ok for conversion of mp3 files, I use a program called dbpoweramp, http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ . This will convert any bitrate to any other bitrate (along with file conversion), but you must understand that this will NOT increase the quality! The original bitrate means that the set will be kept at that quality, just the sample rate increased and thus the file size increased.
If you can imagine, making a really disgusting cake and then sticking nice icing on it doesn't make it nice. Just look better
MusicMatch
There is an option inside MusicMatch JB
Options > Recorder > Source > Line In
plug your radio headphone jack into the Line In Port of your PC.
Options > Recorder > Settings
Change it to MP3 CBR (Constant Bit Rate) 192Kbps
You may have to download a codec in order to do this last part, I use Blade - search for bladeenc on Google.

Musicmatch uses a major amount of ram, and i used to find it would freeze if i was recording and using other applications
I usually use total recorder, save as a wav file, then edit in soundforge 6 and encode to mp3 using lame encoder
