That's the cost of living comfortably.
You see, this kind of thing really pisses me off, because I'm always hearing about how people can't afford to eat in developed countries and really IMO that's totally bullshit.
Here's what I'd call the actual cost to live (I'll try doing this in pounds, but my conversions might be off a bit):
Decent appartment in a low-cost area: £250/month
Electric: £30/month
Water: £30/month
Public Transport: £40/month
Food: £30/month [eat cheap, i.e. pasta which costs about £1 for eight servings]
Misc: £50/month
Which comes to £5160 per year. You need to make about £100 every week. If you've got 4 people, at least two of them can probably work, so that's £50 each per week. Frankly, I think you could make that much begging.
