I know that 75% of all hiv infected people in northamerica are Bi/homosexual males and that many counrys in africa are falling apart because aids has claimed so many lives. tho we dont see much about it, its kinda funny that the media is somehow lost in iraq. There was also a rumor that AID was created from other existing viruses to thin out the population(DONT KNOW IT THIS IS TURE) AND MOST IMPORTANTY THEY HAVE FOUND FEMALE PROSTITUTES IN AFRICA THAT ARE IMUNE TO HIV!!!! what are your thoughts on all this? will we find a cure??

Immune to HIV?? I don't mean to sound rude but where in the world did you hear this, and do you have any links to it?

As to the comment that AIDS was man made to 'thin out' the population; well that is just nonesense. AIDS is a naturally occuring virus and thats that.

"Trial data indicate that black and Asian volunteers appeared to produce higher levels of antibodies against HIV. White and Hispanic volunteers appeared to develop consistently lower levels of protective antibodies following vaccination," according to VaxGen. In blacks, the researchers said the vaccine was 78.3 percent effective, but of all the people in the trial there were only 314 blacks. Blacks account for half of all new HIV infections in the United States, according to government figures. Among Asians, the vaccine showed 68 percent effectiveness, but that figure may not turn out to be scientifically accurate because only 77 Asians took part in the trial. Researchers said a larger sample of Asians could produce different results. Why are some protected, others not? "This is the first time we have specific numbers to suggest a vaccine has prevented HIV infection in humans," said Phillip Berman, inventor of the vaccine called AIDSVAX. "We're not sure yet why certain groups have a better immune response." If the numbers are certified by independent experts, it could be significant for Africa, where the epidemic is skyrocketing. But the vaccine would require some additional work. In Africa, where the strain of HIV is slightly different, it would take time to do simple modifications that could make it work there as well. VaxGen said it planned to continue developing a vaccine and will examine more closely why it worked better in blacks and Asians than whites and Hispanics, according to The Associated Press. VaxGen researchers have started comparing the blood serum of those who were protected by the vaccine with those who weren't to try to find out what happened in the body to protect them. If the test results bear out, it could prove to be the basis for developing an HIV vaccine. VaxGen counseled patients in the experiments to practice safe sex because the vaccine may not work and because one-third of the volunteers received the placebo, the AP reported. Experts think a vaccine is the only way to stop the worldwide AIDS epidemic, which already has killed 20 million people and infected 40 million more, according to the AP. Until now, researchers have had nothing in the lab to use as an example of how to fight the virus that causes AIDS. If VaxGen is able to isolate the mechanism that protected people from HIV, researchers might finally have a guide. The FDA will have the final decision on whether the vaccine is licensed for certain populations.

You have to ask yourself ... what kind of idiot participates in an HIV study (and is therefore aware of the risks) and STILL gets infected??? Maybe it is a population thinner ... a thinner of the stupid. At any rate it's nice to not be talking about iraq!

I dont have a link for the man made aids thing but i did hear that it was assembles from 2 or 3 common deadly desieses and placed in africa. Im not saying its true i dont really want to belive it but hwo knows.

As for the women immune to aids, I heard it on the CBC and have seen it one tv as few times, Apertently they found female prostitutes in africa who have slept with many men and should by all means have aids but dont, last i heard they were trying to get them in to the UK for studies but were having problems.

The situation in Africa is horrible; did anyone see the issue put out by Time a couple of years ago entirely dedicated to this subject? I just hope the President makes good on his pledge from the State of the Union Address (unless, as there always seems to be, there is some ulterior motive/hidden agenda behind it all). I just think that if the West continues to pay as little attention to this problem as we have in our recent past, and does not take the proper recourse to action, it most certainly come back to bite us. The governments in those countries most heavily afflicted need to effect more action at the local level though, particularly in educating the disease. I would say take a page from countries who had HIV 'epidemics' in the not so distant past and now have the situation somewhat under control, such as Thailand Female prostitutes immune to HIV? Guess it could happen, nature works in mysterious ways, and the human body in itself is always changing in ways we can't predict....anyway, there's hope!

Contrary to popular believe, you are not gaurunteed to get hiv by sleeping with an hiv postiive person. I forget the actual probablilities but it could be very possible for a peorson to have many sexual contacts before contracting the disease. Besides how can you conduct a scientific experiment with this women? "Please sleep with this HIV positive man and afterward we'll test you for the disease". With regards to the Aids being assembled by some government agency ... well lets just say that such a project would be a collosal waste of money and intent since that disease has spread all across the world and has effected everyody, not just africa.

The people who were volunteering were people who admitted that they were unresponsibly engaging in dangerous and risky sexual behaviour.. and that they were going to continue it.

I just hope that we find a cure or vaccine soon... this is one horrible disease and its scary that with our technology we havent after 20 years come up with something substancial. But we will definately see a vaccine soon. in our lifetime for sure. But who knows what will come after Aids.

I just find it very funny how our species has only just contracted this virus within the last 20 years. Seeing that we have existed as Homosapiens for about 3 million years,,, why have we not tripped over this virus in the past? Why so recent? All other virus's that have plaqued man kind have been known to plague our ancestors.... yet this one is new. Could it have been genetically engineered? That could be a possibility seeing that we had this capability since the mid 20th century.

I've also read about people being immune to aids, but not hiv. Some people have had hiv since the 70's and havent progressed to full blown aids. Apparently they've located some gene which stops this transition from hiv to aids, and is a main focus of research..

It's also sad to see that countries like Swaziland have been devistated by such diseases with over 50% of the population infected. That's literally someone in every household... sad.

Anyway: I've recently read that in the next few years (10-15 years) about 30 million Africans will die of AIDS. Basically we're talking about an entire GENERATION being wiped out.
I simply donno what a solution can be other than a massive education which must start IMMEDIATELY and extensively throughout the continent. Same goes for the far east btw.
