New York club scene

Things were starting to look good again here in NY towards the end of last winter. World renowned DJ's began to accept the fact that this city could still rock like no other, so they booked good gigs. The ones who had an aquired taste for dance music could choose from Arc which might be the top of the chain right now and work their way down to Exit, SoundFactory, Roxy or The World....but these days there seems to be nothing left. Although Arc continues to pull their weight with the goodies they have, its yet to make the kind of boom that clubs like Twilo or Tunnel have made.

Our latest biggest turnout, PvD at Roxy might have been a good experience for most of you but for me it was a dissappointment, bouncers hassling me and my friends on 3 seperate occasions gave me nothing but a bad vibe and just thinking about that long line outside had me come to the conclusion that I was lucky to get in and learned that even ticket-holders arent guaranteed entry into the club.

My most recent experience was just last night...an Exit nightmare. Most of you are probably familiar with the Parti Gras concert they were holding, well a friend of mine is leaving for Florida this weekend and we all gathered up to go there just because its the biggest thing going on this week. After waiting on line for just 20 minutes, the NYPD and FDNY showed up and stopped letting people in. Slowly but surely, people inside the club were leaving too. So we all left to wait in the car hoping that there would be a possibility we could make it inside Exit. During that wait, four undercover cops rolled up to my car and searched us and the car for drugs. They found nothing like that but it just goes to show everyone that this city is on lock-down. We didnt even bother with Exit after that.

Maybe its just a bad time to party. After all, we're still a city on high alert.

yea, i hear ya 100%. nyc right now is on paranoid alert. i think i might be going on a haitus (clubbing wise) into everything gets back to normal because right now every1 is all paranoid about terrorists and drug use and all this shit we should not be worrying about in the first place if it wasnt for 9/11, but theres nothing we can do about it. the nypd and the nyfd are trying to protect this city as much as they could. unfortunatley there being real harsh on the clubs for drug usage which is something they shouldnt be worrying about and instead worrying about terrorists coming into nyc to do more harm to our city. but than again there also worried about that club in ??boston?? i think it was and chicago that had people die due to overcrowdedness and bad pyrotechnics. So i guess just wait a month or 2 and take a break from clubbing and see what happens from there.

btw nice seeing ya at pvd

I think that we have only recently been getting in great world renowned dj's.......(Pvd, sasha, Oaky , Tiesto, Cox, MarcoV, Joof, talla, bond, jules , hardwick, and other) IN the last 3 months there has been a splurge of trance due te the trance nights at arc and ocasional big parties at roxy. My main problem is that nyc athorities are cutting down new parties at thier feet. Right when something good gets going bloombergy comes in and starts causing trouble with his NAL ( Noise Aurdinace Law ) Wich states that if a nyc official can here whats going on in the club in the streets they will be fined rediculous amounts of money. I want mayor dinkens back. He had things great Back then we had Usa, Palladium, Tunnel, Limelight and a few other super clubs run bye Peter Gatian. I know that drugs were rampent but ........... whatever I just want those days back (Even though I didnt go out then)

I thought I was the only one who noticed how quick the bouncers were to point fingers on PVD night. It made me super paranoid and almost ruined the vibe for me. I think everyone had a flashlight pointed at them 2 or 3 times. The bathroom was unbelievible. A bouncer stood outside the stall doors and watched everything through the cracks of the doors for the entire 6 hours PVD was on. I also heard they had alot of undercovers in there that night. Why can't things be the way they use to be? I was even scared to shake my friends hand or give anyone a hug.

The Vibe right now sucks in the ciry. All the city officials are up each others ass. The biggest problem is peoples inability to take responsibilty for themselves. If u get busted selling drugs by an undercover in the club it ruins the experience for all of us. I am in no way infringing on peoples rights to do whatever they want, including substances deemed illegal. But whenever in the club people need to think twice about what they possess and do cause the city is already looking to point a finger. Also, the club owners need to step back and stop trying to rape us for every dollar and overselling the club (ie PVD @ roxy) which certainly is going to draw the attention of the fire marshall

Anyway, to all my TA's out there maybe we can put together a string of private parties that could be all about the music and vibe without the bullshit

Bloomberg is a business man and he wants the clubs to do well, its an easy way for the city to make some money. The noise laws and all that crap were put into effect by Guiliani.

As far as the club thing is going, most of the people who used to go out have started to stay in due to the lack of teh VIBE and people have grown up and its whole differnt crowd now. IF you go out alone to a party you most definatley will not find a VIBE at any venu, but you must find couple of your frieends who think like you and make the VIBE for you self and just zone out.
As far as the bouncers go i think they are doing a pretty good job. I mean if i was running the club i woudlnt want a freaking kid ODing on drugs and ending up dead in my establishment. That will look bad for me and make the cops more intersted on whats going on inside.

For all those who takes drugs i have no problem with you but if you want to "trip" "roll" "fly" "jump" or whatever just do your shit before you come into the club, when you bring that shit into the club the club partialy becomes responsbile for you...i still dont understand the whole deal with the drugs, for some they have to have it just to feel good about the music, i dotn get it. For me the music alone take me to another level...but whatever thats a whole differnt topic.

I personally havent had any good club nights recently in NYC, but when i was down in DC over the summer they were the best nights that i persoanlly expierence. Good crowd, good friends, nothing to worry aobut.

Take a road trip and see what other cities in the US/Canada has to offer then you will see how much you take things here for granted. Enjoy what you have and make the best of it.

For the VIBE part take a trip up to Canada....they have some goood parties

WICKED It is

twilo had the best of everything hands down(sound system, crowd, djs, music, vibe, energy, atmosophere, lights, innovation..) nyc was on a high and clubbers were loving it.. fresh new djs from all over the globe blessing the decks of twilo every fridays with bi-monthly residencies from s&d, pvd, carl cox, deep dish, sven vath & richie hawtin not to mention the djs that were becoming regulars @ twilo(timo maas, dave ralph, anthony pappa, josh wink, pete tong...) sigh* but sadly after twilo closed down, and the same year the attacks of 9-11 really fucked it up bigtime... just the whole vibe of the city has gone down.. seems like arc is trying hard to pick things back up but i think its gonna take more time to have that "era" in nyc when it was so good.. i just think instead of complaing about how bad the things are, we should try to contribute in positive ways.. if everyone that cares supports, then that right there is a positive vibe created.. its a crazy world right now with the whole war situation.. and clubs are the places where u can forget about the craziness and be free and connect with the ppl that share the same love for the music..

Twilo was great but again, the bouncers were ASSHOLES.. Especially those participating in that incident with od'ed people being locked in the room and denying to the EMTs that anyone needed medical care.. That sure as hell didn't help Twilo.. And if god forbid anything happened there like a fire, imagine trying to get out of there.. No way, no how.. It took me an hour to get to the bathrooms a handful of times, so no, Twilo wasn't perfect and I would never blame NYPD/NYFD for being concerned and trying to stop things like this from happening..

As far as NYC club scene.. I've heard these talks for several years now.. It's all the same things being said, that the vibe is gone, and that drugs are getting the best of our clubs.. But I really don't think anything changed.. It's all the same $hit every time I go, no matter where I go.. I see the same things - some people who are there just for their love of the music, some just to get easy access to drugs and get all f*cked up while listening to ANY music, some to get a$$.. NYPD and undercovers have always been there, bouncers have always been assholes.. So I dunno, I don't see anything changing drastically other than individual clubbers who either grow out of the scene, get tired of it and start complaining, or the honeymood period is over and they see it for what it really is..
