I wish

I don't think I'm alone on this one, but does anyone else wish we had the type of fesitvals they have over in the UK? Homelands, Creamfields, Gatcrashher Summer Soundsystem, Godskitchen Global Gathering....Damnit - why can't we have anything like that over here...?!?!?! Sure we had Area 2 last year, but that's nothing compared to the UK events. Plus the fact, that there isn't an Area festival this year anyway.....

::Sigh::

because there is no market for it.

If it made sense to host a festioval like the ones mentioned above in the US, someone would, but there are just too many barriers here.

i had never heard of coachella till yesterday but that is huge on the west coast. it covers more than edm but that is the only way you'll get that size crowd in this country. edm doesn't have a big enough fan base in the us to pull 60,000 like in the UK.

they tried Creamfields in the US in 2001 but due to lack of ticket sales they pulled out.
One was supposed to take place out in Riverhead,LI. The other Las Vegas in the desert?

There was also the MEKKA tour in 2001 that too pulled out due to lack of ticket sales.

Area 2 type festivals will do well in US...you neeed variety and thats they only way to sell tickets.

the festivals have to showcase to an american crowd so they cant stricty go EDM artists, they might have to add some rock/aleternative/pop/hip hop/artists to it as they are doing back in the UK. Then i am sure it will work.

Also EDM needs to be promoted to the masses of the US, but some are not for it because they hate it to go "main stream", but if you get some ads on TV and radio then yeh it will work. Its all about doing good PR/Marketing

I definitely wish we had events like that.. Ultra is awesome (is that still coming to NYC in September??).. I had a great time at Boo 6 but that's a very "poor" attempt, even though they did bring in some good talent.. Canceling Creamfields was STUPID because noone ordered advance tickets.. I'm sure they woulda gotten enough people in there.... I woulda went and so would've everyone I know, but none of us wanted to get advance tickets.. Then there was Ultraworld in DC 2 summers ago (I think ).. Again, poor attempt but did bring in some good DJs..

This of course is NOTHING like what I hear of European festivals, but it's a step towards that.. I just hope I make it across the pond to see it for myself

Yeah, I hear ya people. Area 2 wasn't bad at all, but I'm sure not even close to UK festivals. Unfortunately, there will not be an Area festival this year (just our luck) And what about Ultra? Ultra in the city in September??

but it's like comparing triple A to the major leagues...

patience is a virtue...so soak up the anticipation...itll feel a lot sweeter once a festival of GKGG's caliber finally comes to the US...and since the scene is growing here, it WILL come eventually

the fact is that something like GKGG will never come here. Its simply too expensive to fly over all those djs at over $1,500 per dj per flight and every dj requires 2 seats, thats $3,000 per dj to come. GKGG had over 100 european djs. You see where I'm going with this???

I would love for there to be an event in the US like this, but I'm glad at least that I can get away from the states once in awhile and experience how the other side of the ocean parties. There is nothing like it in the world. Not only that, but the festivals have actually killed the clubscene in the UK. Because the clubbers are so spoiled by the huge line-ups of the festivals the clubs dont draw anymore. Cream has def. felt this afteraffect and eventually had to close. The day of the superclub is over and unfortunately over there, everyone waits for the festivals. Personally, having 1 over here would be nice, but too many and it causes a backlash through the clubs. Creamfields would be all you ever needed...
