some newbie music questions re: genres

i know this topic has been discussed before.

but i was just wondering...what is the difference with all these kinds of music? i thought i had everything down: trance, techno, happy hardcore, house, and progressive. but now there's tek-trance, tek-house, progressive house, progressive trance, so on so forth. and i still dont know what psychadelic trance is.

so.

i'm going to type out some (hopefully) well-known songs that go across styles, and i would appreciate it if you guys could — since all of you know more about music than me, no sarcasm — label them with their appropo' genre.

alter ego - betty ford
atb - don't stop
cass and slide - perception
delerium - innocente (deep dish rmx)
dune - boomerang
dj sammy - heaven
dj shufflemaster - geylang
hi-gate - hurricane
james holden - nothing (93 returning mx)
jimmy van m - love like sleep
kansai - rococco
lasgo - something
marco v - godd
mauro picotto - awesome
nu-nrg - butterfly
renato cohen - pontape
ricky effe - sector.30
solar stone - solarcoaster (midway rmx)
system f - solstice
tekara - breathe in you

for example: jimmy van m - love like sleep = progressive trance, right? i hope so. if not, please dont flame.

feel free to throw in a couple of tunes of your own. thanks, guys.

you'll find electronic music is fickle as for categorizations. They are often very subjective.. lots of gray and not much black and white, and there are tons of synonyms for the same 'music' group.. I find its best to stay away from redundant categorization and just enjoy the music. After all it doesn't really matter if it's "progressive house", "miami bass", "detroit techno", "cheese", "epic trance" or whatever just as long as its a mint piece of production (ehh , cept maybe cheese.. but thats more of a buzzword for "high-nrg" tracks and shit productions then a genre)...

Just do a search for Goa or Psy Trance, lots of good stuff. Or could try:

Astral Projection - Kabalah
