turntable question...

Ok, I have a turntable question...
I just started getting into this whole DJ thing, and am really surprising myself at the rate I'm getting the hang of the basics...but everything has been on my Pioneer CD decks. I'm looking to get a turntable this week to start learning on, and am having some difficulty in deciding which one to get.
My first urge is to run out and get the Technics 1200, just because of the name and it's history. But part of me is more sensible, and is thinking about getting one a little cheaper. but I am in no way willing to risk any quality. I'm basically looking for a comparable turntable, at a cheaper price. Anyone know anything about the Denon one? Any help of suggestions would be awesome. thanks.

I've not heard anything about the denon, besides marketing shpiel.

I reccomend a technics, but if you wanna go cheaper, i have heard good things about the Stanton STR8-80s and STR8-100s which are a little cheaper.

also numark makes a lot of decent decks as well.

if you can afford it, just go for the Technics, put from my experience, once you go to the 1200s, you cant ever go back to anything else.

I tried using some Stanton direct drive turntable once, but after using the 1200s for a long time, it just wasn't right.

^^^^^^^^^ ditto.

I had always used technics and a while back, I was asked to spin at a party where the dj had bought his Pioneer Decks. It was a waste of time. I stopped mixing after 3 songs. It's worth the money if you can afford it, and it makes things so much easier for you.

You're not going to get anything as good at a lower price.

Cool, thanks. Looks like the Technics is the way to go.

My personal preference goes to the Gemini PT-2400.. I have two of these myself, and I love em !

Problem is they aren't fabricated anymore, maybe you can still get a pair, you won't feel sorry..

Otherwise maybe the PT-2100 is an option.. It's even cheaper than the 2400 one, and it's good quality !

Nothing beats Technics though, but if you want to spend a little less, Gemini may be a good option.

well, personally i would recommend you get the stanton str8-80 or 100 if $ is a concern...I have the stanton str8-80 turntables and i love them. they're great...I'm able to jump on the techs at the club w/ no problems. i mean, of course the torque isn't as great as the techs, but nothing that would make a difference. they actually even have more features than the techs...

I got the stantons after doing a lot of research on the best dex and because i couldn't afford to get a pair of techs. i'd rather spend that money i saved on vinyl. (and i did...i really did, jeez)

NOTHING....I repeat, NOTHING beats Technics. Like I used to say...

"Pay more now, and be happy later "

But if you get like Gemini or stanton...etc

"Pay less now, and buy another one later "

I have a Numark TTX1, which is now a bit cheaper than the Technics TTs. It's $399, which is $90 less than the M3D on www.pssl.com. I think that this table is at least as good as a Tech, if not better.

Honestly, I hate posts that say nothing more than "Technics rUlE mAn!" They are NOT the only way to go if you still want quality equipment. My suggestion, which is the same to everyone looking for hardware, is it go to a place like sam ash or mars music etc and try them out for yourself. See how they respond to your touch, and look at the stats and compare them to other TTs by using the manufacturer's websites. Remember that not only do you have to by a TT, but you have to buy a cartrage to go with it, which depending, can run you over $100 too!

I used to have Gemini PT1000's but they were crap compared to 1200's...My advice is go for the 1200's. I've also heard good things about the new numarks, but I'd still trust the technics. The technics you can find for about $400 each and numarks for $370.

I guess I should have mentioned that my post was in reference to about 2-3 years ago, and there has been a lot of technological development since then, so I agree that there may be new turntables that work better for less $$$ than the 1200s

if you want a quality deck get either 1210's or MKD's 3
or Numark TTX1 or Stanton STR8-100 or any Vestax deck
