DJs & Producers drama: internet memes, flaming, controversy
Inspired by the cornucopia of deadmau5 bashing, I was curious to compile a list of all known clashes between artists and their fans, or just between artists themselves.
Danny Tenaglia
Danny went off on a crazy rant about his club set being recorded against his will at some club. The thread can be found here
Darude
Darude often posts on TA. Haven't seen any drama yet, except for a little criticism of his DJing to which he constructively replied.
Dave Dresden
Dave Dresden is infamous for posting on TA a lot and participating in some bashing, which then resulted in him quitting the forums with what is remembered as an emo post. Needless to say, it resulted in more bashing and an epic fail. Also see the Lunasea controversy
Deadmau5 and Deadrat6
Marcus Schossow and Maor Levi created deadrat6, which was a parody of deadmau5. Under the alias, the produced tracks such as Very Exactly, The Result Is Cheese, Printing Russia which are mockery of deadmau5's tracks Not Exactly, The Reward Is Cheese, Faxing Berlin. deadmau5 has been under fire for allegedly overusing 1/8th notes and it's been claimed that most of his tracks sound the same, so Marcus decided to see how hard it would be to produce in the deadmau5 style. The parody, Very Exactly, was actually played by Armin Van Buuren in ASOT 330
There is a myspace page for deadrat6, to which someone, allegedly deadmau5, retaliated with a Marcus Fat$$0w myspace and a parody of Marcus' Mr. White tune, Mr. Black.
Blake Jarrell
I've seen references to Blake's activity, but not much.
Johan Gielen
Some time around 2003, 2002, Johan Gielen came onto the TA IRC channel after his Trance Energy set and was flamed for playing cheese. There was also a thread on the forum criticizing him and his set.
Carl Cox
There was a Carl Cox meme in the COR, but I missed most of it.
Markus Schulz
Markus wrote some negative comments about the TA bashing in this thread
Max Graham
Max asked TA's to caption a picture of him in this thread. As a given, when an even slightly-famous artist is participating in forum discussion, there will always pop up at least one person who'll find it necessary to mention how much they think the artist's productions or DJing suck/s. Kudos to Max Graham for not even getting onto the soon-to-be trainwreck. Also, I'm not surprised to see that UKTAs were involved
Richie Hawtin
CDM mentions something about Richie Hawtin being "subject of a surrealist Internet parody and very popular joke t-shirt line". This I know nothing about.
Steve Angello
When Angello posts in this discussion of a new Angello/Ingrosso collaboration, indirect accusations of selling out start to fly. To these, Steve replies with "Please little child run along, I run a major business, the odd few hundred that you get for signing a filler track isnt even enough to buy me shoes". The statement, in all its glory, opens a rather nasty can of worms.
