The stuff that's stressful has been going on for years. It's one of the motivating factors for returning to school. But tonight, just got some news that doesn't bode well for any long-term, let alone near-term, reduction in that stress.

Michigan is a beautiful state, but I am really resenting the fuck out of my experience here.

Keep going, I'm sorry for using the term 'advanced age' so loosely. Hopefully you'll be able to get through the hardship, I wish you the best of luck in your studies.

Speaking of age, I am dating someone from 1973 (39) and its awesome. I had always felt out of place with most people around my age (yes, eddie, not everyone thinks i'm a nutjob) but with older people i seem to get along quite well.

Michigan is indeed a beautiful state, I went to school in a neighboring state, not too far from where you are. The midwest can be incredibly warm and welcoming, true Americana.

Some guy recorded a fatal accident a few kilometres away from where I live. The (now deceased) driver nearly ran over dozens of pedestrians in a marathon, but rear ended a bus instead. I can't believe how fast this guy was driving in that area, it's nuts.

Meet me under the bleachers after Trig, I have a big fat spliff in a zip-loc bag in my locker. Just make sure the groundskeeper doesn't see you cutting over the field right before the big game.

Huh, wasn't me. Winston must have deleted it? I think he made the thread.

There's no info as of yet on what the hell was going on in his head at time. Some people do drive like that around here, so I guess was in a hurry (for whatever reason) and failed to see the bus until it was too late, as there's a still hill just before that traffic light.

Winston pulled a "Troll Gambit", claiming he was trolling all along, and said "call me winston, call me pedro, call me shirley if you want...

just keep the thread going!". And the thread was then moved to the "limbo"

Just watched the series finale of House. A textbook example on how to properly conclude a series. Loved every second of it.

Now ill need to find a new show to watch to fill up that huge hole that the absence of house will leave.

China - The World's Cleverest Country?

quote:
China's results in international education tests - which have never been published - are "remarkable", says Andreas Schleicher, responsible for the highly-influential Pisa tests.

These tests, held every three years by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, measure pupils' skills in reading, numeracy and science.

Pisa tests - the Programme for International Student Assessment - have become the leading international benchmark.

The findings indicate that China has an education system that is overtaking many Western countries.

While there has been intense interest in China's economic and political development, this provides the most significant insight into how it is teaching the next generation.
'Incredible resilience'

The Pisa 2009 tests showed that Shanghai was top of the international education rankings.

So why are the rising stars in Asia proving so successful?

Mr Schleicher says it's a philosophical difference - expecting all pupils to make the grade, rather than a "sorting mechanism" to find a chosen few.

He says anyone can create an education system where a few at the top succeed, the real challenge is to push through the entire cohort.

In China, he says this means using the best teachers in the toughest schools.

The shifting in the balance of power will be measured again with Pisa 2012, with pupils sitting tests from Stockholm to Seoul, London to Los Angeles, Ankara to Adelaide.

"I don't think of Pisa as being about ranking, it tells you what's possible. How well could we be doing?"

Me too. I was satisfied though I felt like they could have got a 2 hour finale out of that and fleshed it out a bit more.

Oh well. Smells like "spin-off" to me though.

I completely disagree. However, right now I'm too drunk to explain why.
