I do two weeks of days and two weeks of nights, repeat. 7 shifts a rotation, 12 hour shifts. I work a traditional, or continental, line. So I work a weekend (Fri-Sun) with the two days following that weekend off, then I go back for two days and have the following weekend off, back for two days, off for two, repeat.
Works great for me. I really enjoy the switch and having lots of days off, especially midweek. I'm a night owl and I usually only sleep 4-6 hours on the reg anyway...so the changeover doesn't bother me at all.
There are dayday/nightnight (4 shifts on, 5 days off) lines, but I don't like that. |
I wondered how it would work as a nurse. My dad works for the city and every year he has to rotate to graveyard shift for 3 months. But leading up to the time he rotates to graveyard they give him like 3 days to 7 days off with pay to adjust to the graveyard shift.
