Weddings suck. So much shit. If I get married, either I am going to make sure everything is 100% planned and I have to do nothing, or its going to be at a courthouse and a party somewhere else later.
My parents got married in municipal court and had a party back at their house. That sounds ideal to me. So much pomp and circumstance seems excessive otherwise.
Course usually the groom has no real say in any of this so... |
Exactly, weddings are an inconvenience - that has always been my view. There is just so much crap that people include that nobody gives a shit about, and we are keeping ours pretty simple compared to other weddings we've been to.
We aren't doing formal speeches, not having a wedding cake, not doing a gift registry, not having a buck and doe (I think they are tacky as fuck - don't have a wedding at all if you need to have a cash grab like a buck and doe to cover costs ffs), not doing engagement photos, and if I could avoid it I wouldn't be having a bridal shower either - but I am not allowed to say no, apparently.
The main thing is that there is really great food, free booze, and awesome music. All of which we have covered. It's basically gonna be a really awesome, fancy dress up party where we also happen to get married.
As per the cost, I don't think people should have to lose an arm and a leg to pay for a wedding, but imo a good wedding is all about the comfort of the guests - and that does cost money. That's if you don't decide to get married at city hall.
But yeah, that's why we hired a planner. We just told her our budget and overall vision, and she does the rest. I mean obviously we work together, but she's the one who executes everything we talk about. There is a lot of stuff I'm finding out as we go along that I would have never thought of, that I know would stress me the fuck out. We don't have to worry about anything - on our wedding day literally all we have to do is show up!
A wedding is supposed to be a beautiful celebration. Many people say it's the most important day of their life (lol I still think that's lame). A person (or two people) shouldn't have to stress about it. That's not fun. :/
