So, apparently, one of my best friends who is from "MICROnesia" isn't really looking good at all; his skin! textbook addict, a recluse and a stranger. How bad is it? I AM DONE WITH THIS, we have a problem SF, and I blame ... white people. Those entitled assholes who have built this plantation country. Addiction hits the most prone to have their lives destroyed because of drugs. Three excellent friends, but those guys are probably just 'too rich' to care. I care, why are you living like shit? Why did you stand me up, prop me up, and cancel on me because you binged the days before. My cherished friends who did everything for me and saved my life when I was spiraling down, have gone rogue; no bars, no parties, no Meetup's...I know they are on that 'slow-mo'.

Education degrees and thousands of dollars down the drain because...privilege.While my friend can be bullied or hurt verbally because he is a minority, another gets away with propping up the predatory scenario that suckers in the 'ambitious', 'the good students', the 'genii'...

I've been saying for years that I want to get back out on the ski hills but never got around to actually doing it. It's pretty expensive to start up again - buying all the equipment, etc. so I had been waiting for the big ski swap in the fall. Well October came and went this year and I totally forgot about it. :/

So yeah, forward to this week and I decided I would just do it. Especially now that I'm pregnant I wanted to do it before my money starts going towards the baby. Bought myself skis, boots, bindings, poles, helmet, and goggles (I already have a ski suit at least).

So fuckin pumped to get back on the slopes! And I'm visiting my sister out West in a couple months for a Whistler trip.

It's been 5 years since I last slid down a mountain... And it's ironic snowboarding is the only sport I don't suck at

Would have been way better if I had remembered the ski swap. Prob spent twice as much by having to get everything retail, but I did at least get a deal on skis by going for last year's model. I was up past midnight last night trying to find the bindings I wanted.

Apparently when/because I moved to London my family sold our place in Whistler, because I was using it more than anyone else So sad about that. I haven't gone skiing since I moved over here, but trying to arrange something in the Alps next Winter. I hate not skiing

Part of the reason I haven't skiied in so long is that it wasn't fun for me any more. My parents were instructors + coaches, and my dad had very high expectations. When he died I just stopped since he wasn't there to force me to go any more.

Only in the past 5-6 years, pretty much since my sister has been living out west and starting up again herself, have I had the desire to get back out there. Sick of wasting my winter and I have often found myself wishing I had skis and stuff. I live 40 minutes away from the biggest hills in the area, and there are three other resorts all between 10-20 minutes of where I live. Kind of ridiculous NOT to be of there, especially with this winter we've had. Best for skiing in years.



I'm totally nervous about not having skiied in so long and having brand new equipment. The technology is so different now, skis are much different than when I last used them. I was all freaked out initially thinking I bought too much ski, but my sis put me at ease and assured me I would have regretted buying a shorter ski. She said after a few runs for her it was like riding a bike, so, yeah.

Hah, well not MOUNTAINS. The biggest hill in this area is part of the Niagara Escarpment, but it isn't an actual mountain. Still lots of options for decent skiing though.

But yeah, even just watching ski tip vids and how the style of skiing has changed (namely with legs wider apart) is so crazy. I was taught the old school way, short radius turns particularly, with legs practically glued together.

I was an aggressive skiier when I stopped, my sister and I raced for some years. But I loved bombing down the moguls and catching air of jumps, and going off trail. All stuff I know I will not be doing now, lol.
