Back when I was in grade 10 There was an older kid who had it in for me at high school. he made it well known he wanted to kick the shit out of me. For weeks leading up to one dreadful night this older kid would come up to me in the halls and try to pick a fight with me. Now this guy was known for being gang related and I was young and much younger then he was. I was terrified. One day walking down the hall he grabbed me and threw me into a locker and told me this was the day he was going to get me. he let everyone in the school know that after school he was going to kick the shit out of me. Everyone was warning me that day and I made the concious decision to skip school and go home early to avoid this. I was not sure what I was going to do the next day and I guess the idea was I was hoping it would blow over by the next day. Well the next day came for me but not for him. The next day he was in Jail. He ended up stabbing another kid and the kid locked himself into a car and bled to death during the assault. I dodged a bullet that night. In my head that was meant for me. I remember being so thankful that it wasnt me. Well it ends up that dude in the bar I had that long conversation with ended up being that same guy from when I was a kid and he's out of jail now. I don't know if he knew it was me or not tongiht...but now that I look back at it. I am pretty sure he did. funny times.

Stories like these are why I keep coming back to TA

a little update to that story. I went to bed after writing that and it was fresh in my mind. Made me think back to those highschool days and how everything was so wild and new, and I was just some kid who used to skateboard and play sports thrown into this new world of what we call highschool.

Anyways I was asleep that night and woke up at 5 am to the smashing of my condo door and someone yelling "Wake the fuck up!".

I had no clue who it was because who the hell would be coming to my condo at 5 am and making that much noise. I was half asleep and walked over to the front door. I peeped out of the peep hole to see someone at my neighbour's front door drunk as hell banging the shit out of the door. I was half asleep and for a second I was like "Oh shit its that guy Sean B****n, hes back to murder me and got my unit # wrong" and I went into the sports closet and pulled out a bat. Looked again and just realized it was some drunkin idiot. One of my neighbours came out and told him he was going to call security if he doesn't leave right now. drunk guy left. I went back to bed. End Story.


Ps i make it sound liek i live in the wild ghetto I live in a very prestigious converted loft building in toronto's West End in a good area.

I also give you that tad bit of information so nou has a real life example of someone who was born into the lower middleclass and can go out on his own, work very hard and change his circumstances.

Why would I need that? I am very aware of the struggles that people face in the US (and you are a Canadian, you actually do have it significantly better than most Americans born into the same circumstances) and I think there is a lot that can be done to make life easier for them and expand economic opportunities and class ascension.

I also had a bat in my apartment too lol. Right next to my bed. When I was entertaining people they wondered why it was there haha.

edit: Yes, university is government subsidized and cheaper for us. This, however, is not free. Taxes, your parents do pay them. America's biggest fault is the privatization of universities (that make a shitload more than they should) charging insane amounts for mediocre educations. If they have a decent sports program they are making tons of money and not passing the buck back to the people. This should not happen, but no one does anything to change it.

Basically subsidized education and universal healthcare give you a huge advantage over the US. There really isn't much more too it. In the US you are saddled with medical debt or massive student debt. Not having those things be a possibility or a worry drastically increase economic mobility.

God the news coming out of their lately has been depressing. The more I learn the more ridiculous it gets. For instance a friend of mine was telling me how you can get student loans to pay for college dorm rooms, but they can't be used to pay for general rental near your college. Do you know who that benefits? Absolutely nobody besides universities, it's hilariously corrupt. Especially when people could potentially be paying 1/2 to 1/3 as much in rent if they opened things up a bit.

I predict that the US is going to hell purely because of citizens united and first past the post/their voting system. Things only get worse every 10 years in terms of economic inequality and insane economics practiced by the ruling parties. How is anything supposed to change when there's such a huge amount of money going into the system they have first past the post?

When you pay 42% of your salary in income tax (what i was before splitting), and 15% goods and service tax on almost everything, you are saddled in other ways.

Granted we are smarter, but fuck me if you can pay your rent with intelligence.

For all of its faults, I love China. You are a go-getter? You will get. I'm by no means rich, but the amount aof my salary that I can bank is insane compared to before. Pay as you go for things like health care and school. The burden of some is not the burden of all. If this is communism (it is not), call me a card carrying pinko.

Also: The Canadian medical system leads to the "brain drain". All of the best doctors split stateside to make more money...all while having had their education subsidized by the Canadian taxpayer.

The universal health care system is a massive failure. A 2 tier approach is what is needed. You make more money? You should have access to better services. Just as a higher salary dictates getting better everything.
