Merry Christmas Stu, and everyone!

Have been busy with the usual holiday parties, quality time with friends and fam, etc. I've got 11 days off since Monday and have just been enjoying relaxing... And alcohol. Lots of alcohol. Lol.

Crazy storms here which should make for good skiing next week!

Hope everyone is having a safe and happy Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I decided it was mountaineering weekend here in South Korea and decided to plunge headfirst on top of the highest peak in the vicinity. It was no Aconcagua, but according to my watch, the peak was 510 metres above my starting point, and I got back just as sun set, so I wouldn't have been able to try a higher mountain anyway.

Mountains here have an Instagram-ready obelisk at the top to show others you reached the peak, and apparently if you go to 9 different peaks you get an official certificate or something. Not really sure I'll want to climb other 8 mountains before I go back, but it was nice for a one-off.

Other than that, I organised the world's loneliest secret Santa in which I gave myself a DJ controller, an audio interface, and a flannel shirt. I mean, I'm all by myself, but I wanted to keep the Christmas supper tradition alive somehow, and that's the best I could think of

I'm jelly. There's been enough snow around here, but not nearly as much as I had hoped. Skiing sounds like fun, I should give it a go.

Where at? I liked going up Dobongsan. Very good hiking.

Merry Christmas, freaks!

Here's my tree. By far the nicest I've ever had - about 8 feet. It made me tear when I put it up after we spent four hours untangling the bundle of lights (lots of drinking during and after).

Wigilia (Polish Christmas) is always more important for me than Christmas Day thanks to my grandparents. My fondest childhood memories are with them on Christmas Eve. Here's a nice story. Last week we went to a beach. My boy was climbing around and I hear an older woman talking Polish, so I said excuse me practicing my Polish and asked if she was visiting or living in Crete and whether she knew where to get pierogis. I randomly found some frozen ones in a store on the other side of the island but not the cabbage and mushroom ones I like. We got to talking and her husband came over. They sat with us on the beach for few hours. We learned they have custody of their daughter's daughter who's five. Her and my boy had a good time playing together. Anyway, they came over for coffee the day before Wigilia and brought me a batch of homemade periogis with cabbage and mushrooms. They were delicious and reminded me of my babcia.

December has been fun. Looking forward to the new year though. Aiming to spend the first 100 days sober and lose weight.

Cheers all!

Is Wigilia when you guys exchange presents? This topic came up in a conversation with my family, because apparently the Polish and the Dutch have secret santas way before Christmas. If this is the case, does this mean you get to meet the family twice (one for gift exchange, and then to properly celebrate Christmas)? I wonder what the logistics in real life is like (I did some googling, but it's always better to hear from an actual person).

A mountain called "Nogobong".

I was thinking of going to one of the higher mountains, such as Gwanaksan and, yeah, Dobongsan, but I have been putting it off because it takes me a couple of hours to get to these places, and I didn't know whether I'd get back drenched in sweat at freezing temperatures if I tried.

It's doable, apparently, so I might give them a go before I head back to Brazil. I'll keep Dobongsan in mind, thanks for the tip

I opened gifts on Wigilia growing up - never on Christmas day. Then my parents met non-Polish partners and things went astray.

To continue some tradition in my grandparents' memory, I cook dinner for Wigilia with the usual Polish delights - mushroom soup, pierogis, etc. The best wine we have comes out then, too. But now we open our gifts (very few of them might I add) on Christmas morning for our boy's sake because it'd be too late for him. Not sure that will change though.
